A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,

We have truly enjoyed celebrating Staff Appreciation Week this week and are so grateful for the donations provided by the PTA and our community to thank our teachers and staff for their resiliency and commitment to our students.

It is not too late to write a note of thanks!  Personal notes mean the world to teachers and staff.  Please take a moment to send an email to a staff member or complete this form.

Check out this great video that the Rocky Run MS NJHS shared with our teachers and staff.

May Observances in our Community:

What is Asian American Heritage Month?

How to Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at Home:

Jewish American Heritage Month

From Ramadan, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, to Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, May marks a time of celebration and commemoration for many communities across the country. These 31 days are also designated as Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) when we pay tribute to the achievements and contributions made by American Jews throughout our nation’s history.

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who have helped form the fabric of American history, culture, and society. More information is available online

Thank you for your ongoing patience and support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns or feedback.

Sincerely,

Amy Goodloe, Principal

School Year 2021-22:

Five in the Fall - Limited Virtual

Earlier this week you received communication from Dr. Brabrand outlining the limited options for virtual learning for the 2021-2022 school year.  That communication contains a lot of information and I encourage you to read it carefully.  I wanted to make sure that you were all aware of the timelines below.  No action is necessary if you wish your child to return to in-person learning in the Fall.  We are expecting that the majority of students will return to in-person learning, five days per week for 21-22.

SUMMARY OF ACTION ITEMS

If your child(ren) has a health/medical need for instruction in the Virtual Program, please:

  1. Fill out the Intent to Apply form between May 5-9, and we will contact you with next steps on the Virtual Program eligibility and enrollment process.
  2. Download the COVID-19 Health Eligibility Form which requires a health/medical certification of need that must be completed by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, or a licensed clinical psychologist.
  3. Submit completed COVID-19 Health Eligibility Form with health/medical certification to virtualenrollment@fcps.edu between May 17-21. Upon submission, families will receive an electronic reply with detailed instructions on how to complete the Virtual Program Enrollment Application via the online application portal between May 17-21.

FCPS’ Central Virtual Program Enrollment Team will contact you with a decision by June 1.

Thank you from our PTA:

Dear AMAZING RRMS Parents:

Words can not even express how very much your generous donations made the Ramtastic Snack Bar event truly the perfect dose of Love and Kindness all of the RRMS Staff needed to receive. Each individual staff member truly enjoyed all the treats available to them throughout the week. They laughed....they sighed with contentment.....they felt appreciated. It has been a tough year for us all and I just want you to know how grateful I am to see our community step up to show kindness to one another.

Thank you again!

Mari Thomason, PTA Hospitality Chair

2020-21 End of Year Grading Flexibility

  • Use of NM (no mark) instead of F grade for final mark
  • Use of P (pass) instead of a final mark of D/D+
  • Final exams used only to raise student grades

Please review the voice-over video regarding the EOY grading flexibility and contact your child's counselor if you have any questions.

Also, students/families may request a mark of P (pass) instead of any passing letter grade as their final mark in any course. If you want to make a request, the form is to be returned to school counselor by June 1, 2021 (deadline extended).
