Dear Wolftrap Families,
Please see below for information on class placements for 2021/22, kindergarten orientation, SOLs and more.
OPTIONAL CLASS PLACEMENT PARENT SURVEY (DUE MAY 17)
As you know, we do not yet have a full picture of what school will look like when our new year is set to begin in August. Although we do not have all the information, we are beginning to think about and plan for next school year. As in the past, we welcome your participation as we plan for class assignments. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning abilities. You have the opportunity to complete on optional survey for the upcoming year at THIS LINK. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating the best possible classroom placement for everyone, requests for specific teachers cannot be honored. Our teachers and staff will use this information to work on tentative class groupings in June, with classroom assignments finalized in August as the school year approaches. Please submit the electronic form no later than May 17, 2021. Late submissions will not be considered. Thanks for continuing to have trust in our school and working together to create the most successful environment for your child(ren) at Wolftrap each year!
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
This is your last chance to register to attend our virtual Kindergarten Orientation on Monday, May 10 at 2:00 PM. Please register to attend and receive the link to the meeting here. If you have any questions about registering for Kindergarten, please contact our registrar, Ms. Kamel, at ckamel@fcps.edu.
VIRTUAL STUDENTS DURING IN-PERSON SOL TESTING
It is important to us that our virtual students are provided with quality instruction while their in-person classmates are taking SOLs. We have arranged for our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher Ms. Newman to provide live synchronous instruction during each morning of in-person testing. This applies to any class in grades 3-6 whose classroom teacher is in-person and who has a mix of students learning in both the virtual and in-person format. Teachers will be reaching out with specifics which may include a separate Google Meets link if students from the same grade level will be combined from different classes. We are thankful to Ms. Newman for rearranging her schedule to provide this support for our virtual students!
REMINDER TO RESPOND!
Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year’s assessments. In Fairfax County Public Schools, testing for grades 3-8 will be scheduled between April 26 and June 4, 2021. Our school specific dates are in a table below.

As we prepare for spring assessments, we have been collecting information about your family’s intention to test. Classroom teachers sent a Google form to fill out. The link is here: online Google intent form. If you have not filled out the form, please do so as soon as possible. Teachers will be reaching out to families who have not responded via email on May 4th.
If your student is in-person, and we do not have a response from you, we will intend to test your child. If your child is virtual, and we have not heard from you, we will assume your intent is to opt-out of testing. If you have any additional questions, please contact Mr. Mat Campet SOL test coordinator or Dr. Maggie Grove, assistant principal.
RECESS EQUIPMENT
Each class has received kickballs for use during recess. The kickballs are labeled with the classroom teacher’s name so the equipment can be easily identifiable by class. Students may play with “foot use” only and the equipment will be sanitized between and after use. As a reminder, classes are rotating through the playground as a part of our rotating zones and students are provided with hand sanitizer before and after use of our playground equipment.
JUNE 8: VIRTUAL SYNCHRONOUS DAY
Election day is on Tuesday, June 8. Because so many schools are used as polling locations, all FCPS students will have a virtual synchronous school day on the 8th.
