Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we invite you to join us and the PTA in celebrating our amazing teachers. Here's what we have planned:

Virtual Monday: Messages of Appreciation! Email your teacher(s) and share with them your favorite memory or a message sharing how much you appreciate them!

Tuesday: Wow, That’s Cool! Use sidewalk chalk, markers, paint, or anything you have on hand to draw your teacher(s) a picture or write a message and post them to the LCES Facebook page!

Wednesday: My Pleasure! Let’s all show our support and appreciation to all our staff and teachers by wearing our school colors.

Thursday: Mixed Bouquet! Take a photo of flowers, a photo of you holding flowers/draw a picture and email it to your teacher! You may also bring in a flower for your teacher!

Check out the flier here.

Kindergarten & New Student Registration

k

Do you have a rising Kindergartner?   We are currently enrolling for the 2021 – 2022 school year. The student must be five by September 30, 2021 to qualify for Kindergarten. Documentation required for enrollment includes the most recent physical examination with record of immunizations, birth certificate, and proof of residency/Deed or Lease.

For more information and to start the registration process, please visit our website at https://leescorneres.fcps.edu and submit a new student registration intake form.

Additional information is available at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/kindergarten-registration.

We would appreciate your assistance in sharing this information with neighbors who have preschool children or who are new to the area.  Please encourage them to visit our website or contact our Registrar, Jill Boddie for enrollment information. She can be reached at 703-227-3519 or jwboddie@fcps.edu.

SOL Testing

SOL tests will be administered in May to students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

If you did not fill out the form to refuse testing or notify your child's teacher of your decision to refuse testing, your child will be expected to take the SOL tests.

Virtual students who will NOT take the SOLs will be given the option of taking a remote test (not an SOL) to measure their progress this year. Families of virtual students who refused testing will receive an email with more information.

Virtual students will test on Mondays as listed below. Families who need bus transportation should email latapper@fcps.edu.

Monday, May 3rd--4th and 6th grade Reading

Monday, May 10th--3rd and 5th grade Reading

Monday, May 17th--5th and 6th grade Math

Walk In My Shoes Virtual 5K

wims

Walk In My Shoes program activities are designed to create more welcoming school environments for all kids. Students will learn about challenges their peers face on a daily basis, develop empathy and compassion, and learn strategies to support their peers.

  • Increase knowledge--by providing information about learning differences, developmental challenges, and medical issues;
  • Build empathy--by providing opportunities to take the perspective of others;
  • Build skill--by helping students identify strategies they can use to support a friend.

Autism Awareness

aut

April is Autism Awareness Month, and it is a great opportunity for us all to learn more about how people with autism see and experience the world. The more we understand, the better we can support one another.

Did you know that the character Julia on Sesame Street has autism? Julia and Elmo are great friends! Here's a video about Julia:
