A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Rocky Run Families and Students, Great things are happening at Rocky Run in-person and online!  We continue to be so proud of the work of our students and staff as we navigate a year like no other. We are so proud of our April Students of the Month. Be sure to check out the list below.  Kudos to our Student Services staff who have hosted many student events during our Stress Less weeks.  Outside time, bubbles, chalk and PJ day have been big hits.

May 3-7 is Staff Appreciation Week:

We are so grateful to our Rocky Run ROCK STAR staff.  We will be celebrating them throughout the week in partnership with our PTA.

Personal notes mean the world to teachers and staff.  Please take a moment to send an email to a staff member or complete this form.

You can also contribute to a staff member's book wish list.  See the note from our library below.

Attendance Reminders:

  • Students who are scheduled to attend two or four days in-person are expected to report to school on their assigned days.  Our teachers are expecting you!
  • No Monday attendance check-ins on May 3, 10, 17 due to testing.  Students should check teachers' posted Learning Calendars.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns or feedback.

Sincerely,

Amy Goodloe, Principal

Book Fair / Teacher Appreciation Week

Looking for a way to thank a Rocky Run staff member during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3-7, for their dedication this school year?  Our virtual bookfair with Bookworm Central can help!  The year-long bookfair is still open and ready for your business at  RockyRunMSOnlineBookstore!  Many teachers have created wish lists of books they would love to add to their classroom libraries.

  • Head to  RockyRunMSOnlineBookstore and
  • Click on “School Wish Lists” from the top navigational bar to find a specific teacher’s wish list.
    •  Don’t see a teacher you are looking for?  Purchase a book from the wish list “Rocky Run Educators”
      • When you can add a personalized gift tag/note, write the name of the staff member you’d like to get the book;  we will strive to make sure it gets into their hands.

Of course you can also make purchases for yourself:

  • Enjoy book lists created by Rocky Run librarians
  • Orders ship direct to the address you provide
  • FREE shipping on orders over $30
  • All purchases benefit our school library
  • There are titles for the whole family, including adults and children of all ages!

Returning FCPS Library Books

The RRMS community is encouraged to return library books when they are done reading them.  There is a mail return outside of door 1 that is accessible 24-7.  If a student is coming into the building, there is also a book return outside the library’s entrance.  If your child still has books from their elementary school, you can return them to Rocky Run.  Overdue notices were emailed out this morning.

Questions?  Reach out to Ms. Grover and/or Ms. Bickford at RockyRunMSLibrary@fcps.edu

Student Services

Stress Less!

This week, Student Services Department held our second week of our "Stress Less Program," focusing on Emotional Self-Care. The Rock Time lesson was on the importance of tuning in to our emotions and the positive impacts of mindfulness and meditation. Next week, our focus shifts to SocialSelf-Care. We will continue to have activities planned for both in-person and virtual students. Please have your children check their grade-level Google Classroom!

2020-21 End of Year Grading Flexibility

  • Use of NM (no mark) instead of F grade for final mark
  • Use of P (pass) instead of a final mark of D/D+
  • Final exams used only to raise student grades

Please review the voice-over video regarding the EOY grading flexibility and contact your child's counselor if you have any questions.

Also, students/families may request a mark of P (pass) instead of any passing letter grade as their final mark in any course.  If you want to make a request, the form is to be returned to school counselor by May 10, 2021.
