WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

Bull board

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

May is upon us and we have six great weeks of learning and fun ahead of us. We are working on exciting plans to honor our graduating high school senior alumni on Monday, May 24, 2021 and our sixth graders on Monday, June 7, 2021. Information will be shared directly with these students/families.

Planning is also in the works for summer school at WFES. We are working to try and staff as many classrooms as possible. As we secure a teacher, we will reach out to families to offer summer school based on student data. Summer Practice Books will be mailed home to FCPS students to provide suggested activities for students to support continued learning.  Families who have opted-out of paper mailings from the division will only receive digital copies of the Summer Practice Books.  Books will be mailed home to families in early June to arrive before the last day of school, June 11, 2021. Students enrolled in grades K-8 in 2020-21 will receive one Language Arts Practice Book and one Math Practice Book.  These books will include information about digital tools that can be accessed by students and families to support learning throughout the summer.

We are also actively planning for a full return to school in August 2021. Part of planning for next year is creating draft classes. This work is done collaboratively with the teachers and administration in the spring. We have been advertising for the last several weeks an opportunity for family input. We review and consider all input when making decisions, although not all requests are able to be honored. Input must be received by Friday, May 7, 2021 to be considered.

Should you have questions or concerns, please email me at sbprindle@fcps.edu.

Thank you.

Positivity Project: Purpose

This strength means that you seek to be part of something greater than yourself.  Having a clear sense of purpose in life gives individuals strength.  It allows them to persevere and find courage in trying circumstances.  On a group level, the sense of connection between people further strengthens their individual resolve and focus, which fortifies the group.

Family Input Form for Classroom Placement, SY2021-2022

WFES is planning for a 5 day in-person instruction for the 2021-22 school year. If you would like an opportunity to provide feedback on your child's classroom needs, please complete this form. A separate Family Input Form for Classroom Placement should be completed for each child. Information will be reviewed, but there is NO guarantee that we can honor requests. In order to be considered, this form must be turned in no later than this Friday, May 7, 2021.

New Bus Schedules Coming Today

The software issues with student transportation have been resolved. The Office of Transportation Services (OTS) will implement the new schedules starting Tuesday, May 4.

Our Here Comes The Bus app will be inactive until May 4, 2021 and parents should check their ParentVue account to receive the updated schedule for their child.

For more information about the Here Comes the Bus app, please go to the following.  This link explains how to download the app and includes any FCPS- specific information you will need.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 5 is national Bike/Walk to School Day. We’re hoping for a beautiful day, so that many students are able to participate. Library Book Check Out

We are continuing to offer curbside book pick up for all WFES students!

The next curbside pick up will take place from 12:00 – 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 6. Here’s how it works.

  • Students may put up to 5 books on hold for pickup.
  • Students may also request additional books or fill out a form to request a “mystery bag” of books chosen for them by Mrs. Rapuano.
  • Please see this link for all the details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qpOs8zofqJXdalZIY-IAC3UeP4A6rMzP/view?usp=sharing (you must be logged in to your child’s FCPS Google apps account to access the link). This flyer is also available on all the specials Google Classrooms.
  • Emails will be sent to parents/guardians and to student Gmail accounts when holds are ready to be picked up and the day/date of the next pick up day. Please wait for this email before coming to school for book pick up.

Returning books

  • Library books may be returned to WFES on weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be marked bins outside the front door for books being returned.
  • Emails and printed notices were sent to the parents/guardians of all students who still have books checked out from last school year. If you received a notice, please return the books or pay the replacement costs ASAP.

If you have any questions about any library-related matters, please contact Mrs. Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu.
