If you have a child in grades 3 through 6, please note that we will be having Standards of Learning (SOL) testing this spring. A complete calendar with testing dates for all grade levels has been posted on our school website. You can view a video presentation about SOLs here and access the slide presentation with active links here.

Detailed information about these tests was emailed home to parents and guardians of all third through sixth graders before Spring Break. If you cannot locate the email, please contact our parent liaison, Melanie Crosby Hardy, at macrosby@fcps.edu.

Advanced Academics Program (AAP) Parent Referrals for School-Based Level II – III Services Due April 26th

Screening for school-based Level II and III Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services can happen at any time during the school year but is done schoolwide in spring to determine services for the next school year. Parents or guardians may initiate the screening for school-based (level II and III) services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form (available at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/elementary-school/current-fcps
at the bottom of the page in Forms) to the AART at Lane by April 26, 2021. Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services. Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by Lane of their student’s eligibility status by June 4, 2021.

If parents or guardians wish to appeal an ineligible decision, they may submit an appeal with new data for consideration by the local school screening committee. This new information should be submitted to the AART.

If you have any questions, please contact Lane’s Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Linda Simon, at lesimon@fcps.edu. You can also check out Ms. Simon’s AAP Virtual classroom for more information, copies of Lane AAP parent information presentations, and a copy of the school-based screening referral form. The link for the AAP Virtual Classroom is https://sites.google.com/fcpsschools.net/aapvirtualclassroom.

*Please note that you will need to be logged in to an FCPS student Google account to access the AAP Virtual Classroom.

May 5th Is Bike to School/Work Day!

Students, staff, and families are encouraged to walk or bike to school/work where and when it is safe to do so on Wednesday, May 5th. Biking and walking are healthy and environmentally friendly ways to travel around our communities. Fairfax County has multiple trails for biking throughout the area (map). Make sure your helmet and bike are ready for travel with these resources: helmet check and bike check.

Will Your Family Be Returning to Lane Next Year?

We are starting to plan for back-to-school in the fall. We would like you to start thinking about the year ahead as well and to let us know if your child(ren) will be returning to Lane for the 2021 – 2022 school year. In order to determine how many classroom teachers we will need, we would like to know who is planning to return to Lane and who will be moving to a new area. These forms are not binding, but even preliminary information can be very helpful!  We usually send home paper Student Intention Forms, but this year with so many students still learning at home, we have chosen to use a Google form instead. Please submit a form for each child at Lane in kindergarten through fifth grade. Thank you for providing this important information!
