Principal's Message - 4/24/21

Good Afternoon Parents and Families:

It was another busy week as we welcomed several students to four-days of in-person learning. Our final group of additional students who requested four days of in-person learning will begin on April 27th. As always, I am grateful to our students, staff and families for your patience and support as we navigated another change during this extremely challenging school year.

With the increase of students in our hallways and classrooms, our focus remains on family, student success and growth to ensure all of our learners, in-person and virtual, feel connected and have support. As I have shared so many times before, one of the best parts of my week is when I spend time in classrooms and talk with our students. Our students and staff are so talented, and I love how they have been able to have many rich and meaningful hands-on experiences. Our in-person students have been able to connect with their peers at home to engage in labs and share projects with one another.

Outside of the classroom, we had the opportunity to honor and celebrate our students for their outstanding student achievement during the 3rd quarter. As part of this ceremony, our “Nightingales,” performed the Star Spangled Banner live from the Stone music room, in which it was streamed for over 200 students and families. They did such a wonderful job. It was so nice to see and hear them in their first live performance this year. Our two 8th grade student speakers, Layla and Ella, had such profound words for their peers acknowledging that persistence, hard work and dedication will allow them to continue to find success.

In spite of the challenges of this school year, the uncertainty, fear and tremendous amount of change this pandemic has caused, as well as the tension and divide that exists in our nation, I offer my commitment to continue to come together as a full school community.  Throughout the month of May, I will provide opportunities for staff, students and families to have conversation and dialogue on how we continue to share our experiences, learn about and from one another, and move forward so all of our students, staff and families feel included and a part of this great community.  These opportunities will be outlined in next week’s Principal’s message.

In the meantime, please continue to reach out to me directly (mcnorris@fcps.edu) if you have any questions, feedback or concerns. I look forward to showcasing our students and staff as we close out this school year, and I thank you for your support.

Have a wonderful weekend,

~Meredith Norris, Principal
