FCPS believes that in-person instruction is the best model for our students, and we are planning for five days of in-person instruction as the primary mode of learning for all FCPS students during the 2021-22 school year. Our data throughout the pandemic has shown that students do best socially, emotionally and academically with in-person learning, while our recent return-to-school survey found that the largest percentage of students who report satisfaction were experiencing all face-to-face instruction, with 90% of families and 88% of staff saying they were satisfied with in-person instruction.
Virtual learning options are still being worked out for the fall but are likely to be limited to those who need to remain virtual due to health reasons. FCPS will share more details on our plans for virtual learning at the May 3 work session.
Senior Endia Alvarez is not only a Military-Connected child but also a Student Ambassador. She was recently interviewed by our FCPS videographer/ producer, Jeff Clark, to celebrate both of her roles. We appreciate her service to us! See her interview here: https://youtu.be/fBxFuYC8Ry4
We are happy to share the good news that five EHS students have been accepted to the Governor’s School this summer:
- Samantha Grealish, for Math/Science/Technology
- Momina Ali, for Agriculture
- Yenee Berta, for Humanities
- Annika Harusadangkul for French
- Sherlin Amaya-Medrano for Japanese.
Four Latin 1 students received gold medals on the National Latin Exam, the highest possible distinction:
- Olivia Forsythe and Kiara Frey, Gold Medal winners who also won the “Perfect Paper Award”
- Harper McClure and Caitlin Zecca, Gold Medal winners
More Latin scholars:
- Caitlin Do earned a Silver Medal on the Intermediate Latin Exam
- Clare Viehmeyer earned a Magna Cum Laude award on the Intermediate Exam
- Hope Riester earned a Cum Laude award on the Intermediate Exam
We continue to adjust and adapt our practices as a result of the pandemic:
- If you need to pick up your child early from school, please contact the attendance office in advance so that we have sufficient time to deliver a pass to your child and check him/her out. If you come to pick them up unannounced, due to social distancing /COVID procedures and restrictions, it may take more time to contact your child and release him/her.
- All parents/guardians picking up their children are required to enter through door 1 and present their ID in the main office. Also, we ask that unless it is an emergency, to please pick up your child prior to 2:30 PM, as busses will be at the main entrance preparing for dismissal after that time. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
- Parents should also contact the attendance office if your child is scheduled to attend class in person but will participate virtually instead. An automated attendance message will be sent home to families that do not notify the school in advance and students will be marked SYV in SIS.
