Haycock Hello 4.23.21

purple

Dear Haycock Families,

We are very excited to welcome our current in-person students for four days of in school instruction beginning on Tuesday, April 27.  Please check ParentVue to get transportation updates for students who are bus riders.

You will notice that an event tent has been installed near the quad in back of the school.  We will be using this as an outside learning space and lunch area. Students should bring a towel each day with them to sit on.  On sunny days, many of our students will eat lunch outside.

Students in Kindergarten, first, and second grades will not need to bring a laptop to school with them.  We have laptops at Haycock for each student to use in these grades.  Students in grade 3-6 should bring their fully charged FCPS laptop to school every day.

Since many students will be returning to four day in-person classrooms, there is no longer a requirement for those teachers whose classrooms are now entirely in-person to teach concurrently.  Families are still required to monitor their child each day and only send them to school if they can satisfactorily answer all questions on the Health Screening Form.  Students who will be absent for a short duration will have the opportunity to make up any missed work when they return.  This has been our practice for many years.  Students missing school due to family travel will also have the same opportunity to make up required assignments upon their return.  Teachers whose classrooms are entirely in-person will not teach concurrently in these situations.

We have received many requests from families of students who are all virtual to return in person. At this point in time and given our capacity in the building, upcoming SOL testing requirements, and the need to foster some consistency for our students, both virtual and in person, we are not able to accommodate requests for the switch from virtual to in person.  However, we are very excited that Dr. Brabrand has shared with the community that we will provide five days of in person instruction for all students in the fall.

With continuing appreciation for your support and partnership,

Dr. Liz Beaty

Virtual Students in Grades 3-6

Students in grades 3-6 who are fully virtual should stop by Haycock grounds and restart their laptop multiple times to prepare for SOL testing.  Restarting laptops enables the required software updates needed prior to testing.  Come by on Monday, April 26 between 12:00 and 2:00 for a chance to restart your student's laptop and pick up an ice cream treat.

Recess Guidance and Reminders

Students are allowed to bring items with them to play with at recess. However, these materials cannot be shared.  Although students are allowed to bring balls, they are not allowed to play catch as multiple students touching the same item does not follow current CDC guidance. We want to make sure we are doing everything required to keep students and staff safe and healthy.

Administrative Professionals Appreciation Week

This week we celebrated our office staff members. Thank you to Debbie Felix, Mary Ann Smith, Christine LaValle, and Cathie Eames.  Their flexibility and perseverance has helped all of us so much, especially this year.  We are grateful for what they do everyday for our parents, students, and staff!

Kindergarten  Registration

Registrations are open and will be completed virtually! To get started please visit our website at https://haycockes.fcps.edu/student-services/student-registration and review the registration requirements and paperwork listed there. Then submit the Registration Intake Form embedded in the webpage to start the process.

If you have any questions about registrations, the process, or Haycock please contact our Registrar, Christine LaVallee at clavallee@fcps.edu.

Registration is important for our planning, staffing, and can impact class sizes. So, please register early! It will also help our planning and get to know your new student if you can submit this Kindergarten Information Form

To include you in future communications, we encourage you to self-enroll and subscribe to News You Choose and select Haycock Elementary.  We look forward to seeing and meeting your child in 2021-2022.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3-7

Please watch for information from room parents and the PTA.  We appreciate all that our teachers have done for our students and for Haycock Elementary during this very challenging school year.

Kiss and Ride Reminders

We have appreciated how smoothly Kiss and Ride has been going because children are arriving with masks on their faces and ready to exit their car with their bags.

As we transition to more students in the building, in order to ensure that Kiss and Ride continues to be a smooth process, below are some reminders:

  • Kiss and Ride drop off begins at 9:30. Please do not drop your student off before that time to ensure that we have adult supervision in place.
  • At dismissal, all pick ups should happen in the Kiss and Ride loop, which begins at the yellow pile ons and continues through the loop. For the safety of our students and staff, do not park in the Kiss and Ride lot and have students walk to your car.

Haycock School Intentions for Next School Year 2021-22

Please share your intentions for the 2021-2022 school year.  Specifically, we are looking to collect data for those who might be moving for the school year. Please complete one form per student if you will not be returning next school year.

Rising 7th Grade Intentions

If you have a current sixth grade student, please complete this form to indicate if your student will be attending Longfellow MS next year as it aids with staffing and planning for the 2021-22 school year.

Class Placements and Intentions for 2021-22

Every year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements for the next school year.  This year, we had many factors that weighed into the decision making process.  Please note that we continue to take into consideration many factors such as friendships, gender, academics, and personalities. Completing the form is completely optional, but if you do want to provide input, the form needs to be completed and submitted no later than May 14.  Please consider the following:

  • We do not accept requests for specific teachers.
  • The deadline is May 14.
  • We do not guarantee friend requests. As shared above, we will take parent input under consideration but will defer to our staff for final placement decisions.

Here is the link to provide your input https://forms.gle/8rgdiXhsjhJpPWca9 .  It is due May 14th - thanks for your input.
