This event opens tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will take place outside on the sidewalk in front of our school. All FCPS protocols, including social distancing and wearing masks will be followed. Books of all kinds will be available for sale! Purchases may be made with credit card, eWallet (more info here), or personal check.  You may also shop online at the Lees Corner Scholastic Book Fair website: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/leescornerelementaryschool

We still need volunteers during our Book Fair! Please use the link: https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/signup/1XLAPXgft  if you are able to help!

Please contact Leslie Dunbar, Lees Corner Librarian if you have any questions: ladunbar@fcps.edu

SOL Testing

SOL tests will be administered in May to students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

If you filled out the form to refuse testing for your child, you will receive a confirmation email next week. If you did not fill out the form or notify your child's teacher of your decision to refuse testing, your child will be expected to take the SOL tests.

Virtual students who will NOT take the SOLs will be given the option of taking a remote test (not an SOL) to measure their progress this year. Families of virtual students who refused testing will receive an email with more information.

Virtual students will test on Mondays as listed below. We will email families to offer transportation services.

Monday, May 3rd--4th and 6th grade Reading

Monday, May 10th--3rd and 5th grade Reading

Monday, May 17th--5th and 6th grade Math

Monday, May 24th--3rd and 4th Math; 5th grade Science

Virtual students should arrive at school between 8:45--8:55 a.m. so testing may begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. Students will be offered a breakfast before testing begins. Most students will be finished with testing by 12:00 p.m. Lunch will also be available for all students or students may bring their own lunch/snack. Water bottles are permitted during testing.

If your child will need bus transportation, please respond to the email you will receive and indicate that your child will need to ride the bus on a Monday.

In-person students will test on a day when they are in school.

Annual Chantilly Pyramid College Day – Friday, April 30th!

college day

The Chantilly Pyramid will continue it’s annual tradition of highlighting post-secondary education through a College Spirit Day on Friday, April 30th!

Staff and students are invited to wear college gear, LCES spirit wear and/or colors. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a staff-college trivia game where they can learn more about the college experiences from our own Lees Corner staff. The earlier a child knows and believes they can go to college, the more likely they will be to attend! The Google Slide trivia game will posted in Guidance Google Classrooms on Monday, April 26th. Trivia answers will be revealed on the 30th!

Walk In My Shoes Virtual 5K

wims

Walk In My Shoes program activities are designed to create more welcoming school environments for all kids. Students will learn about challenges their peers face on a daily basis, develop empathy and compassion, and learn strategies to support their peers.

  • Increase knowledge--by providing information about learning differences, developmental challenges, and medical issues;
  • Build empathy--by providing opportunities to take the perspective of others;
  • Build skill--by helping students identify strategies they can use to support a friend.
