The Library is back in business!
For remote learners, Reading on the Run will return on Monday, April 19th. The normal hours of 10-12 and 1-3 will resume in the Kiss and Ride loop, and we ask that all library book requests (called HOLDS) be placed no later than the Thursday evening the week before. The one change is that there will be no grab bags. From this point forward, all readers must place holds and are limited to 5 holds. Please look for the reminder video on Library Google Classroom for guidance on how to place library books on hold.
For in-building learners, requested books (called HOLDS) will be delivered to classrooms on either Tuesday or Thursday. In-building learners will receive information from Mrs. Howard on hold deadlines and when their class’s books will be delivered. Students may watch the reminder video on how to place holds by visiting Library Google Classroom. In-building learners are also limited to 5 hold requests. Please email Mrs. Howard at lghoward@fcps.edu with any questions.

Staff Appreciation Week
Dear Fairhill Families,
The week of May 3-7 is Staff Appreciation Week. Normally, the PTA and our Principals would have a fabulous week of treats planned for the staff at Fairhill. Due to covid restrictions, we have revised the plan. Although we are not able to celebrate the Fairhill staff in person, we have come up with pandemic-friendly ways to thank them.
Here is our plan:
1. The PTA will sponsor a lunch for staff that they can pick up at school.
2. The PTA will assemble a goodie bag of treats for each staff member. We will attach little notes to each of the items in the goodie bag to brighten their day.
We kindly request that families donate the items for the goodie bags. We have created a sign up genius found here where you can sign up to purchase an item or donate money that the PTA will use to purchase treats for the bags. All contributions should be delivered to the Fairhill office by Thursday, April 29.
This year, we are going to try something new to help make it as easy as possible to contribute. In the sign up genius, you will find a link to an Amazon wishlist. You may purchase from the wishlist and have your contribution sent directly to the school. Please enter your Amazon order on the sign up genius so that we can track quantities. Also, please ensure that your order will be delivered by Thursday, April 29.
3. We also have a schedule of fun ways that you and your students can virtually thank our staff.
Monday: Email a photo of your student holding a homemade sign or picture to your favorite teachers/staff.
Tuesday: Email a funny joke to your favorite teachers/staff.
Wednesday: Parents, send an email of thanks to your favorite teachers/staff.
Thursday: Enter your favorite teachers in the Virginia Lottery Thank a teacher program. Students can send teachers an e-card through the program and teachers can enter to win a Virginia vacation and $5,000 for our school. To participate, click here
Friday: Have your student draw a picture of a flower and email a photo of it to your teacher.
For a flyer of the events, please click here. (Flyer design credit goes to a Fairhill student, flyer created by FroggyTiger50)
Families are also welcome to send their own gift to a favorite teacher. Looking for an idea? How about a Scholastic gift card? Building up and updating a classroom library can be expensive. Click here to access the Scholastic gift card store.
Stay healthy and safe!

6th Grade Graduation Celebration
It's time to start planning the 6th grade graduation celebration. It may take some creativity this year, but our 6th graders deserve a fun send off! If you are interested in helping, please contact Barbara Hayes at barbannhayes@gmail.com

Dear Fairhill Families,
The Fairhill PTA does not let a pandemic stand in our way! Even though we weren't able to offer all of the fun programs that we normally sponsor, we are still here and are gearing up for next year. It is time to fill the open Board and Comittee Lead positions for the 2021-2022 school year. This year, more than ever, we are looking forward to fun times ahead. We may not yet know what we will be allowed to do next school year, but we are hopeful that we will be able to offer at least a version of our usual programs and events. After a year away, we will start with a clean slate and be in need of creative, new ideas! Serving on the board of the PTA is a wonderful way to feel connected to our school and community. Won't that connection feel especially powerful after the last year of covid restrictions?
The PTA is responsible for many of the fun events that help make Fairhill a community, not just a school. For example, the PTA runs the following: Fall Festival Before and After School Enrichment Programs School supply kits program Bingo Night Fairhill Family Fun Day The Room Parent program Square One Art Faihill Family Nights Out Family Heritage Night Staff Appreciation Week
If you are worried that you will need help or training, we have you covered. Previous board members will be available to train and transition the responsibilities. The board works as a team and we are always available to help new members. Time commitments vary by role. The PTA board and its members meet once a month for a general meeting During a normal school year, these meetings are held in the library, average 1.5 hours and childcare is provided. Due to covid, this year's meeting were held virtually and lasted 20-30 minutes. The Board may be required to follow up on action items, vote on requests via email throughout the month or attend sub committee meetings (for example, Family Fun Day planning) as needed. When we have a big event such as the Fall Festival, we all volunteer as much time as we can to make the event run smoothly.
If we can't fill critical board positions (marked in yellow), we will lose our chapter and all of the PTA sponsored events. Please click HERE for a description of current Board and Committee Lead positions. For more detail, please contact president@fairhillpta.org.

Pre K and Early Head Start
PreK and Early Head Start is an income eligible program serving children ages 3 or 4 by September 30 in multiple classrooms across the county and ages 6 weeks to 2 years in the Reston, Herndon and Springfield areas.
We still have spaces available in a number of our classrooms. We have attached our PreK and Early Head Start flyer and application. However, during this time, we recommend families apply online using the link provided below. If preferred, families could instead print the attached application and mail or drop off personally to our mailbox at Leis Instructional Center (physical address is on the flyer). Your support in sharing our program information to families is greatly appreciated. Please reach out if we can be of any assistance.
