BMP

Dear Bren Mar Park Families,

We are excited to welcome back more students into the building for 4 days per week!  This has been a major initiative, involving many moving parts.  Many thanks to our families, staff and the FCPS transportation department for their flexibility in helping us to make this happen for the children in our community!  Students will notice more students in the room, with 3 feet of social distancing between children during instructional times.  In order to maintain the required 6 feet of social distancing during times when students eat, some students may be eating in different locations throughout the school building.

For our virtual only families, we are looking forward to seeing your child back with us for 5 days of instruction per week back in the school building for next year!

And, a friendly reminder, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  We invite you to take a moment to reach out to your child's teachers (classroom, P.E., music, etc.) to share some kind words or thank yous!

Take care,

Mrs. Williams

Proud BMP Principal

Specialist Spotlight

Spotlight on Library

Hi Families,

Welcome from the library!  Do you know what a database is?  A database looks just like a website, but it’s created by experts.  You have to pay to use databases, but we’re lucky because FCPS buys around 100 different databases for students to use!  There are databases available for kids from preschool through high school.  I teach the kids that databases are the first place to go to when they start research, because databases are trustworthy!

You can get to all of the terrific databases FCPS offers from the library catalog.  In the Learning LInks ribbon, simply click on the link labeled ‘FCPS Online Databases and eBooks’.  This will take you to the databases for ALL of the grade levels.

If you want to get to the databases that are best for elementary age students, go to the library website.  From the home page, choose the ‘Research Resources’ page.  I’ve organized the databases for elementary students on this page.  Simply choose the database you want and click on the link to access it.  The usernames and passwords also appear on this page.

I hope you have fun exploring the amazing databases!  As always, if you have any questions, you can reach me at clwatson@fcps.edu.  Happy Reading!

SOL Testing Calendar

SOL Schedule
  • All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home. Our staff will schedule specific SOL testing dates for your student. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to schedule an SOL testing appointment on a day when your student is not normally attending at school. For example, certain tests may need to be scheduled on a Monday. If this is the case, bus transportation will be provided to school, as needed.
  • For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision. If you choose to refuse the SOL tests, please complete this online Google form. Contact Sandra Chetelat, Parent Liaison at 703-914-7253 if you need help accessing or completing the form.
  • Virtual students will be sent an SOL testing appointment invitation for the day they will test.

PTA Information

IIt's time to elect new PTA officers for the 2021-2022 school year and we are in need of new volunteers to step up to serve on the PTA. To have a PTA requires a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer at the minimum but we know that additional hands are needed for a thriving, active PTA!

Please nominate yourself or someone using the PTA Executive Board Nomination Form Nominating someone does not mean they automatically get put on the ballot for elections- it means they will be aware that someone (not specific) nominated them and asking if they would be interesting and willing to be put on the electronic ballot. Executive Board positions votes will be completed and tallied during our May 11th General PTA meeting.

If you are interested and would like more information to volunteer or to nominate someone, please reach out to the Bren Mar Park PTA at  bmp.pta@gmail.com or call Barbara Alston at (314) 922-1455.
