Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

As of last week, Wolftrap has 65% of our students in-person four days per week. We are thrilled with the county announcement that we will be five days per week next year and cannot wait for our entire community to be reunited. There will be an opportunity for a limited number of virtual enrollments and these requests will be considered through a county application process. Please be on the lookout for communication from FCPS about this process.

Remember that prior to children returning to in-person instruction, parents were required to agree to use the Covid-19 Health Screening questions every morning. It indicates on the top of the screener that you MUST keep your child at home if they answer “yes” to any question since the last time they were in school. Last week, we had several students sent to school who indicated to their teacher upon arrival that they were not feeling well, had vomited the night before, have had a sore throat, etc.  It is vital for the health and safety of our entire community that all families take the screener every morning.  Please see below for other important reminders.

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki
Principal

ABSENCES AND EXCUSES

If you are calling the office to report that your student will be absent, please note that you MUST give a reason for the absence. If your child is sick with any of the symptoms listed on the school health screening form (English, AmharicArabicChineseFarsiKoreanSpanishUrdu, and Vietnamese)  you will need a note from a medical professional before your student can return to school. You will not need to provide the “sick student notification and permission to return to school/ childcare” form unless your student leaves school with COVID like symptoms. If you have not given a reason, please be prepared for the office to follow up. As we return more students, this will be very important for contact tracing and student safety. Thank you for your help.

RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE DURING SOL TESTING

As you know, Standards of Learning testing is upcoming at Wolftrap. The SOL testing window begins on Monday, April 26, with all make-ups completed by Friday, June 4. The specific grade level schedule has been sent to your family and posted on the Wolftrap website. There are several religious and cultural observances that fall during the testing window:

Eid al-Fitr, May 12 - 13, 2021

Ascension Day, May 13, 2021

Shavout, May 16 - 18, 2021

Declaration of the Bab, May 23, 2021

We have flexibility in making up testing or offering your family another date to test within the testing window, if your family is celebrating any of these important days. Please reach out to Dr. Grove or to Mr. Campet to arrange a date that works for your child and your family’s schedule if your child will be missing any school days to celebrate together.

We want to work together with you to honor these important celebrations and consider available options to jointly make a decision in the best interest of your child.

PARENT WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITY

As we welcome our students back into the building and transition to school in the fall, we are focused on Social and Emotional Learning now more than ever! At present, we are interested in moving forward with a better understanding of trauma-informed instruction and building resilience in our students. Therefore, you are cordially invited to the first of what we hope will be many conversations about Building Resilient Communities and Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences. There are two opportunities for you to participate in this important programming to broaden your understand of ACEs and their impact on our community: May 4th from 6:30-8:00 PM and May 25th from 12:00-1:30 PM. RSVP here so you can be sent the link thirty minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Please see below for more information!

The “Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences” presentation includes in-depth information about:

Wofltrap PTAWTES Volunteer appreciation

Volunteering: It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 18-24)! And we have much appreciation to share with the community given this different year to thank all those who have supported the PTA. Our volunteers have truly been the PTA's lifeline this year. A THANK YOU campaign will be run on the PTA Facebook Page this week. We kick off our appreciation with a HUGE shout out to two Committees that have made a massive contribution to the PTA:  Yearbook and our Annual 5k! To have both this year was a dream come true. THANK YOU to Corrine Fields, Mary Finney, Kathy Feidler, Ashley Uhl, Andrea Dahl, and Christina Aizcorbe for creating a Yearbook that will be keepsake to remember a very different time in our lives. See below for our 5K wrap up and thank you!

PTA Elections: At our last PTA Meeting the board was nominated. Huzzah! Our nominees are:

  • Deb Rhoda for President Elect (2 year term)
  • Laura Roper for Treasurer (2 year term)
  • Ashley Uhl for Secretary (1 year term filling in last year)

Our President Elect this year, Corrine Fields, will serve as president next year per our bylaws. The week of May 10 - 14, a ballot will be posted to existing PTA members electronically and the Teller committee will tally and report the results at the next PTA meeting May 17th at 8am. Thank you to the nominees for taking on these extremely important roles in our PTA.

Wolftrap 5k -Thank you!

Thank you so much to our Wolftrap community for making our 16th annual Wolftrap 5k a success! Even with our virtual format, we had an amazing turnout of Wolftrap families who put on their race shirts and got out in nature to enjoy a healthy activity in support of our race event. We are so grateful to this community for your participation.

Our virtual 5k was also a fundraising success, and we are so grateful to all our amazing sponsors, donors and participants to our silent auction, and race registrants for helping us raise funds for our school. "Thank You!" to our eight teachers and staff who got pied in the face to help increase race registration and to kick off our event.

A huge shout-out to the 5k Committee who helped behind-the-scenes to keep this wonderful Wolftrap tradition alive this year: Christina Aizcorbe, Amy Cordone, Mary Finney, Chris Harney, Katie Hunter, Courtney McCreesh, Kerry Lombard, Deb Rhoda, and Mandy Ryan. Thanks for volunteering!

Keep up the healthy activities, and we will see you next year for our 17th annual race!

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 3-7

WTES Super hero Wolf

This year's theme is "Our Teachers Are Superheroes!" The PTA has lots of amazing activities planned to show our teachers and staff exactly how much they are truly loved and appreciated!

Here's how you can help -- Wednesday, May 5 is "Superhero Fan Mail Day." Please have your kids bring in cards, letters, artwork (however they wish to express their appreciation) to their teachers (homeroom and/or any other teachers and staff). Virtual students can have their parents drop off items or take pictures of their kids' work and email them to the teachers.  This is also a great delivery day if parents want to include any other tokens of appreciation for our incredible Wolftrap teachers and staff!
