Virtual Students
All virtual students that are taking a SOL in May are being asked perform the tasks listed below to ensure that their school-issued laptop functions properly when returning to the building for SOL and AP testing:
- Plug in your charger and connect it to your laptop. Then, turn on your school issued laptop and verify that you are connected to your home WiFi.
- Power on your laptop and perform a daily restart (from the Start menu) during non-instructional time (such as at night) while leaving the laptop connected to your home WiFi overnight.
-
Leave your laptop on and connect to WiFi as much as possible for the duration of the school year.
- If your laptop is damaged or unusable, please submit a student technology ticket so that an onsite appointment can be made to exchange the laptop for a working one.
Note: You can still log on and use the device while it receives/applies updates.
Tech Support Appointments
All students in person and virtual must submit a student technology ticket in order to receive assistance with technology issues. The link to submit a ticket if your technology is not working is here: https://itweb.fcps.edu/studentsupport/index.cfm
Once our Technology Team receives the ticket, they will send an email reply that includes troubleshooting steps and an appointment registration link that can be used to sign up for onsite tech assistance; all appointments will be conducted at McLean High School. Onsite tech assistance includes: troubleshooting hardware/software and exchanging laptops/chargers for working ones. Onsite appointments will be offered during Highlander Time and all lunches. In order to adhere to social distancing recommendations, each appointment will serve one student and will last 10 minutes.
Student Support
The McLean Student Services Team is here to support all of our students so that they can achieve their full potential. Often, there will be obstacles in the way of a student’s ability to achieve academically. When this is the case, we work to identify the issue and provide support, so that the student can learn effectively.
We know that over the past year there have been many incidents of hate, locally and globally, that have impacted many of our own students. We want our student body to know that we see you, we want to hear from you, and we support you. McLean High School does not tolerate racism of any kind, and our team is here to talk with you if you need to talk. We want to support any student who is struggling to deal with their emotions regarding any of these issues.
We will be offering a safe space for conversations about race that is open to all students at McLean. The goal of this space is to provide an atmosphere of safety where students feel ok to share their feelings. Dr. Beverly Parker-Lewis, School Psychologist, Ms. Marly Featherson, School Social Worker, Ms. Amber Simpkins, School Counselor, and Ms. Kendall Hunter, Social Work Intern, will be moderating the safe space. It will take place virtually on Monday, April 26 from 1 - 2 PM. Students can choose to speak or simply listen, depending on their comfort level.
If you would like to attend the safe space offering, please fill out this form. You will receive an email with a link to the session the morning of Monday, April 26. Thank you for your time, and feel free to contact any of our moderators if you have questions.
