Purple Up 2021

Wednesday April 21st is Purple Up Day- a day to recognize the strength and sacrifices of our military connected students.  Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, and Navy blue.  All students and staff, virtual and in person, are encouraged to wear something purple on that day to celebrate!

Principal's Corner

Mr. Hirsch and I would like to thank our families for your patience as we have communicated our plans for  expanding our two day a week in person students to four days a week.  Starting Tuesday, April 20, 2021, all of our kindergarten, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade in person students have been invited to return to school four days a week.  Select first and second grade students have been invited to attend in person.  We will be contacting the families of two day in person students that have not yet been invited back to four days a week.

Due to the expanded student return, our SOL Schedule has changed.  Please note the schedule changes.

Our staff has continues to be excited at the progress and engagement we see every day during instruction.  Our Mighty Red Birds continue to soar!

Student Intentions for 2021-22

We need your help in projecting our enrollment for next school year.  For families NOT returning to Cardinal Forest ES in the fall of 2021-22, please complete and return the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” form by June 1, 2021

A typed parent/guardian name on the Parent Signature line is acceptable.  Student ID Number may be left blank.  Save the completed form, attach it to an email and send to kdstephens@fcps.edu

Or….. you can simply send an e-mail to Mrs. Stephens letting her know your student (s) will not return next school year.

Access the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” on the FCPS public website:

Kindergarten Registration 2021-22

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2021, please complete this form and return it to the school office.

If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Floris families who do not have children currently attending our school.

Please email the completed form and any questions to Karen Stephens, Registrar, at kdstephens@fcps.edu

Arrival and Dismissal

We have received complaints about parents parking in the fire lane in the neighborhood next to the school. We are asking that parents send students on the bus, walk or use Kiss and Ride for students.  Our neighbors are taking pictures of the cars and reporting the violations to the school and local police.  Please be considerate and use the designated arrival and dismissal procedures.

Positivity Project

We are excited to continue the Positivity Project at Cardinal Forest.  This week our classes explored the character trait Fairness. We encourage you to go to the Family Resources page to learn more.

Teacher Appreciation Week!

It’s hard believe that we are so close to the end of this unique school year. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 3-7 and the PTA is working hard to find ways to thank our amazing teachers for all the hard work this year.

You are more than welcome to act on your own and send your teacher a letter, a note, a drawing, or a small gift.  Gift Cards can either be emailed or mailed to the school, just make sure to include C/O so it gets to the teacher.

Teacher’s likes can be found at:

https://cardinalforest.ptboard.com/school/cm?mid=2675

Would you rather show your appreciation by writing a letter or drawing a picture?

To show your appreciation please encourage your student to write a personal letter to their teachers as a part of a letter-writing campaign.  It can be an email you can mail it to the school, or dropped off in the bin marked letters and signs that will be in front of the school Friday April 30 to May 2.

There will be a bin in front of the school as we will get closer to the Teacher Appreciation Week for the sign/poster collection.

Don’t forget to thank all of our teachers, specials, special education, and our IA’s.  Just a simple note or thanks you poster is great!!
