 In-Person Learning Update
This week we welcomed back some of our in-person students to four days of in-person learning. And, we are excited to be able to welcome back all of our in-person lions to the Towne for four days a week. We cannot wait for the Towne to be full again. Additional in-person invitations were sent to families this week. If you received an invitation, please accept by replying to the email or by calling the main office.
Following the mitigation strategies and keeping in-person students and staff safe continues to be a priority for us. Families of students that are currently 100% virtual and are considering in-person learning should contact the main office to be included on our waitlist. If space is available, we will reach out to interested families. We wish we could invite all Lions back right now but are limited in our space. As spots become available we will contact families to invite more students to in-person learning. No additional students will be added in May and June of this school year. As always, our administrators, Ms. Padmore (wtpadmore@fcps.edu), Ms. Moore (jemoore1@fcps.edu), and Ms. Vigil (bavigil@fcps.edu) are available if you have additional questions about in-person learning via email or phone (703) 227-5400. Thank you for your continued understanding as we invite more students to in-person learning.
Next school year, we are looking forward to five days of in-person learning for all students. Virtual learning options will be very limited and will be the exception. Any virtual learning will likely be concurrent.
Family Life Education (FLE)
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for kindergarten through grade twelve. The FLE program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to make healthy, responsible, respectful, and life-enhancing decisions related to human growth and development, relationships, and emotional and social health. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, non-punitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, please complete the form that accompanies this letter or access the opt out forms online.
Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to the London Towne Elementary front office or by email to Mrs. Vigil, assistant principal at bavigil@fcps.edu, prior to Family Life Education instruction which will begin April 27, 2021. Your child will be included in all Family Life Education instruction unless you request that he/she be opted out using the opt-out form. You do not need to return the form to the school if you wish for your child to participate in FLE instruction. If you return the opt-out form and later decide you want your child included in FLE instruction, you must notify the principal in writing.
