Principals' Message

Happy Friday CES Community,

We hope everyone had a wonderful week. Next week is Earth Week and we are excited to put all of the amazing outdoor learning spaces that the PTA helped create for us to good use. If your student is learning virtually please consider getting them outside to enjoy and learn from nature. Below is a link to the FCPS Get2Green webpage. This site has many wonderful outdoor learning activities that can be done with your students. Please share any pictures of Earth Week activities HERE.

On May 3rd- May 7th we will be celebrating our amazing CES staff during Staff Appreciation Week! Our theme this year is “Happy Camper” because we have searched under the stars and over the moon and CAMP find any better teachers and staff! In order to celebrate them, we need your help! Each day we have special celebrations planned to thank our staff for all of their hard work and dedication this year. If you are able, please select item(s) you would be able to donate and drop them off at the front office by April 29th. You can come to Door 1 and someone will meet you outside. Thank you so much for supporting and celebrating our CES staff!!

    • April is Autism Acceptance Month as well as Arab American Heritage Month! Both of these communities are represented at CES, and there are many great resources to help teach students about both!
    • Here are some books you could introduce to your students to celebrate Arab American culture and bring about understanding and acceptance of people with Autism.

SOLs

Our 3rd-6th graders will be taking the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year’s assessments. SOL testing for grades 3-6 will be scheduled between April 26 and June 4, 2021. Below you will find the calendar with the dates that correspond with each grade level. All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. If your child is currently in-person, they will take the test on their in-person learning days. If your child is virtual, you will be asked to bring them to Centreville Elementary on their testing day. On the calendar below A is referencing Tuesday/Wednesday students, B is referencing Thursday/Friday students, and V is referencing all virtual students. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you with the dates and times within the next week if your student is virtual. For any SOL assessment, you have the right to refuse testing due to COVID-19. If you choose to refuse the SOL tests, please complete this online Google form: https://forms.gle/Pr7wMkpxBDRhuyte7.  Contact Rachel Forte (rmforte@fcps.edu) or Jen Killingsworth (Jkillingswor@fcps.edu)  at our school if you need help completing the form and/or if you have additional questions.
