Return to School Update

All in-person students may begin attending 4 days a week starting Tuesday, April 27, 2021.This does require us to set aside our previous plan to return only students through our Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process.  Additionally, most classes will now be four days of concurrent instruction as we have students in the building each day and approximately 39% of our students learning virtually each day.

We are working with transportation to get all routes scheduled. You will be able to see in Parent Vue when your child has been routed for four days. Busses are now allowed to have two students per seat. If this does not occur, prior to April 27th, you may attend in person if you provide transportation.

To allow for 6ft of social distancing while eating, students will be eating breakfast and lunch in a designated space either inside or outside of their classroom.  Additionally, we will have five classes at recess at one time utilizing spaces of the parking lot/bus loop. To be transparent, these are not large play areas but definitely accommodate the ability to be 6 feet apart and be outdoors. There will be a rotation for access to the playground and fenced in blacktop area.

As we finalize our plan, we may need a few parent volunteers to support lunch supervision. I will send additional information once specific needs/times are “ironed out”.

Please feel free to reach out to me at mmlemmon@fcps.edu with any questions or concerns.

Standards of Learning (SOL) Testing Schedule And Right To Refuse Assessments

As shared in our News You Choose on April 9th, all SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home. Our staff will schedule specific SOL testing dates for your student. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to schedule an SOL testing appointment on a day when your student is not normally attending at school. For example, certain tests may need to be scheduled on a Monday. If this is the case, bus transportation will be provided to school, as needed. For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision.

Please complete this online Google form to indicate your child’s participation in the SOL assessments by Monday, April 19th at 12:00pm. (Families will need to log in with their child’s FCPS Google Account (StudentID#@fcpsschools.net). Contact our main office at Bailey’s Upper Elementary School at 703-503-2700 if you need help accessing or completing the form.
