Dear Poplar Tree Families,

We hope everyone had a great week. It's hard to believe that we are already halfway through the month of April. The end of the 2020-21 school year is quickly approaching, and as a school we are looking at ways to celebrate the end of this school year. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing our plans for those in-person and virtual celebrations. And, we also hope to offer opportunities for students that have participated in school virtually this year to attend some of these celebrations in-person. Stay tuned for further information.

As we close out one school year, we are also looking ahead to next school year. We are looking forward to in-person instruction as the primary mode of learning for all FCPS students during the 2021-22 school year. Virtual learning options will be very limited and will be the exception. We believe in-person learning is the best options for students and we look forward to seeing ALL Poplar Tree Panthers return to the school building in the fall. Over the next several weeks, the county will be sharing more details about Fall 2021.

Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!

Be On Time for the Bus

As students begin to attend 4 days a week in person, bus stop times will be adjusted next week.  Please remember to get to your bus ten minutes before the listed bus stop time.  You can view bus stop information in SIS Parent VUE.  Parents should also consider getting the Here Comes the Bus APP which tracks the bus and will let you know exactly when it may arrive at your bus stop.

Hero Squad

Hero Squad Campaign

Thank you all for helping to make our first week of the Hero Squad campaign a success! The campaign continues for the next two weeks (ends 4/30). Please donate using one of the ways below and keep sharing these links with family members and friends. Sharing on social media is another great way to help us reach our goal of $5,000! Students will earn a variety of prizes for online donations this year. Prizes earned will be mailed directly to your home at the close of the campaign.

This year, we are doing a grade level competition at Poplar Tree. The grade level that donates the most money will have some brave teachers complete a dare voted on by students. So, keep raising money to see some of Poplar Tree’s teachers dump slime over their head or get turned into a human sundae!

Please contact Mrs. Sniffin, SCA teacher sponsor, at smsniffin@fcps.edu if you have any further questions. Thank you so much for your support of this wonderful cause!

7th grade

Rising 7th Grade

Tdap Immunization Requirement

Virginia Law requires that all students entering seventh grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of eleven.

For your child to begin 7th grade you will need to submit one of the following documents before the first day of school.  It is recommended that all paperwork be submitted to the school office by July 31, 2021.

Acceptable documentation can be one of the following:

  1. A copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine.
  2. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Tdap vaccine was given.
  3. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at:

http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf

The Tdap booster is available from your child’s healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department Clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/clinics or by calling 703-246-2411. Please note that students receiving immunizations at the Health Department must be accompanied by an adult and should bring their immunization records with them.

Seventh grade students will not be allowed to begin school in August 2021 without submitting proper documentation.

tech help

Tech Help Info

We know that as we move through Virtual Learning, technology issues arise. If you're having trouble with your FCPS laptop, here's a few things to try:

  1. Restart your computer! (We have found that this solves MANY of our problems - including those microphone, camera, and sound issues!)
  2. Visit this webpage to checkout some self-help guides!
  3. FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.
  4. If you still cannot get your laptop working, students and/or parents can submit an IT support ticket to get help with district digital resources or your FCPS issued laptop.  Find the portal here.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding!
