WTW NEWS & EVENTS

Spring SOL Testing

Students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) End of Course (EOC) tests as federal and state education departments decided not to cancel them.

SOLs will take place Monday-Wednesday, May 17th-19th

Monday, May 17th - Science SOL

Tuesday, May 18th - Reading and History SOL

Wednesday, May 19th - Mathematics SOL

If you have questions about SOL testing, please contact Woodson's Assessment Coach, Kathleen Guinee at kpguinee@fcps.edu.

Students who continue to learn virtually will have to come to school ahead of the SOL testing window in May to connect their laptops to the FCPS network, run the FCPS Health Check, and have their laptops updated if needed. This must be done in order to participate in SOL testing this spring.

To help facilitate this, tech support is available Monday afternoons from 1:30-5:30. No appointment is necessary.

Pass Grade Deadline

For the 2020-21 school year, high school students have until Monday, May 10th to designate the final mark for two of their current courses as Pass instead of final grades "A" through "D".  Additional information can be found on the FCPS Secondary Grading and Reporting site.

Course Requests for 2021-2022

All students have had an opportunity to complete academic advising for the 2021-2022 school year.

To ensure that we have accurate course registration numbers, please review your child’s requested schedule in SIS ParentVUE or StudentVUE (click “Course Request” on the menu on the left hand side - not viewable on phone version).

Contact your child’s school counselor by email with any schedule change requests.  Please do this as soon as possible.  If no changes are needed, you do not need to contact the counselor.

If your child applied for an academy class, he/she should have already received notice of the academy’s decision. If accepted, course changes, including adding the academy class to your child’s course request list, will be made at that time. Friday, April 30th will be the last day to make course selection changes for the 2021-2022 school year.

NEW VHSL Physical Form for 2021-22

This is the NEW VHSL approved Physical Form. This is the only version that can be accepted for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have a doctor fill out the old version with "revised February 2017 in top right corner, your doctor will need to complete the new one, which may require another appointment. The VHSL Physical Form must be completed by a parent/guardian and doctor. In order for the physical to be accepted for the 2021-2022 school year, it cannot be filled out and dated by a doctor until May 1, 2021 or after. Once completed, please drop it off to Woodson's Activities Office, Woodson's Main Office or scan it to the Athletic Trainer Chris Hogge at chogge@fcps.edu. This must be turned in prior to participating in athletics.

Cav Spring Sports Season has Begun - Go CAVS! Stay tuned for updates!

Cav Varsity Fall Playoff Updates

Varsity Field Hockey

Woodson varsity field hockey hosted Falls Church in a game that ended early with the mercy rule, 6-0, in Woodson’s favor.  Katie Williams (brace), Allie Maahs (brace), Caitlin Tran, Zoe Hite all registered goals.  Standout assists came from Gwyneth Durosko (2), Elizabeth Stribling, Mae Cooke, and Maria Fruchterman.  Julia Oleyar, Alex Walrath, and Fruchterman provided a new-look attack that caused the Falls Church defense more problems.  Maddie Legum and Melany Michel provided fresh energy in the midfield.

Woodson then travelled to the Justice Wolves.  The score line was 3-1 at halftime with goals from Williams (brace) and Audrey Fisher.  Williams and Genna Cooke added to the Cavalier tally for the Regional quarter-final result, 5-1 win.

For the Regional semi-final, Woodson travelled to the West Potomac Wolverines.  It was end to end throughout the match.  Into the second extra period, with players showing exhaustion, Durosko stole the ball from the Wolverine and passed up to Stribling.  Stribling took a touch to control, another to force the goalie to the ground, and a final hit for the game winner, 1-0.

The Region Championship finals stage was set with Woodson at Fairfax High.  The score line was 0-0 through regulation and two extra periods.  Great defense and great offense.  During the shootout, Kelley Gross made massive saves and all of the girls showed serious grace under pressure.  In the end, Zoe Hite attacked with the perfect balance of patience and urgency to score and win the game, 1-0 Woodson Cavs Occoquan Region Champions!

Come WATCH your Cav Field Hockey program play in the Virginia State Championship Final Four (semifinal) game vs. Madison at 7 PM at Woodson High’s Pat Cunningham Stadium this TUESDAY night April 20th!  Go CAVS!

Varsity Cross Country (XC)

Big congratulations to the Boys team who finished 2nd in the Occoquan Region and will be advancing through to the State Championships this Thursday. The boys were led by big performances from Samik Bhinge, Cole Dawson and Caleb Hymans! Our Cavs runners closed the gap to West Springfield with their gutsy races and are hoping to continue the success going into next week on an even bigger stage at States!

Ladies were led by Caroline Poole, Maddie Stokes and Jesse Silkowitz in an absolutely wild race! Places three through six were only separated by about 20 points; incredibly close for the team scoring! Ladies Cav runners finished 6th out of 14 teams in the Region. We thank them for their hard work and resilience through this incredibly difficult year. While XC is over for the ladies, we will be seeing many back for Spring Track after a few well earned days off.

Look for more news and information regarding the Cross Country State Championships- the Boys will be racing this Thursday afternoon at Oatlands Plantation.  Go CAVS!

Varsity Golf

  • Raymond Kim, 87
  • Leo Lee, 87

Google Chrome Sync

As part of FCPS’s ongoing effort to support student use of technology, Chrome Sync and the ability to save passwords is now available.  Students are not required to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, but may choose to do so in order to:

  • reduce their log-in time.
  • access bookmarks and extensions across devices.

Chrome will remember and offer saved passwords when students are logging into different instructional applications. Chrome will also make bookmarks and extensions available on any device in which the student logs into Chrome and turns on Sync.

If your student would like to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, support resources are available on the FCPS website.  If your child is logging into Chrome now, they may need to log out of Chrome and log back in to see the new features.
