Dear Columbia Elementary School Community,
The Region 2 Office has begun the process to select the next principal of Columbia Elementary School. In conjunction with the Department of Human Resources, we have developed a framework aligned to our existing principal selection process that can be facilitated virtually to maintain the safety and well-being of our staff and families.
An important first step in this procedure is to inform faculty, staff, parents, and community members about the principal selection process. Therefore, all staff members, parents, and community members are invited to attend an important meeting on Wednesday, April 21, at 5:00 PM to hear about the hiring process and hiring timeline. In lieu of a face-to-face meeting, we will be using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to connect virtually. We certainly hope you will be able to attend this meeting. Please cut and paste the following link into Google Chrome to attend the meeting:
As we will outline at the April 21 meeting, there are multiple levels of interviews that will take place to select a candidate that is the best fit and match to lead Columbia Elementary into the future. A panel interview will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. The advisory panel will be comprised of three staff members and three parent representatives from the Columbia Elementary community. If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please submit your information by close of business on Tuesday, April 27 using this google document (please cut and paste the link into Google Chrome for best results):

The Region 2 Leadership Team will review all submissions and select staff and community members to serve as panelists or alternates for these interviews. Individuals selected to serve in this capacity will be contacted by the FCPS Department of Human Resources which will be overseeing this process.
Another critical component to the process is your written input. We invite you to offer your individual, written input via email regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Columbia Elementary School. You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address. Input is confidential. Below you will see suggestions for input and how you would submit it to the Department of Human Resources prior to the close of business on April 27, 2021. You may submit your written comments in the language in which you are most comfortable communicating; we welcome all feedback.
I look forward to working closely with the Columbia Elementary faculty, staff, parents, and community members during the principal selection process.
Sincerely,
Fabio Zuluaga, Ed.D
Assistant Superintendent, Region 2

Please make sure you are restarting student computers! You may have already seen a message like the one to the left if you have not restarted recently.
If you do not reboot the computer, it will not get needed security updates and may start running slowly.
If your child is virtual-only, please make sure to also stop by the nearest school parking lot, connect to the wifi and reboot once a month to make sure all updates are being received. This will be especially important for SOL tests. Otherwise students may be waiting extra time to start their test while their computers update.
