 Fifth graders enjoyed the spring weather during recess last week. We try to get our Woodchucks outside and moving every day!
Kindergarten Orientation
Do you have a rising kindergartener or know any families in the neighborhood with rising kindergarteners? We will be hosting a virtual orientation for families on Monday, April 19 at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You only need to attend one session. During this time you will be able to meet members of our staff and learn a little bit about how you can prepare your child for kindergarten.
Please help us get the word out.
Woodchuck Wagon Updates
Wednesday curbside pickup has new hours! Beginning April 21st, every Wednesday parents are welcome to come to Door 2 between 11am and 1:30 pm AND from 4pm to 6pm to pick up or return library books or other materials. Monday Woodchuck Wagon deliveries will remain the same.

SOL Testing - Spring 2021, Grades 3-5
Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year's assessments. At Weyanoke, testing for grades 3-5 will be scheduled between May 10 and May 28.
- All SOL tests are taken in-person at school. SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home.
For any SOL assessments this spring, you have the right to refuse testing for your student. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/34277) offers information and considerations as you make this decision. Please complete this Google form with your decision
- The Reading SOL will be given during the week of May 10
- The Math SOL will be given during the week of May 17
- The Science SOL will be given during the week of May 24
- Specific test dates for your child will be communicated later this week.

Ramadan
Ramadan Mulbarak! If your child is fasting during Ramadan and wishes to be removed from lunch during this time, please email your child's teacher so that we can plan accordingly and best support your child(ren) during this time.
Virtual Students - Computer Restarts Needed
As FCPS continues to push forward technology updates in order to prepare for testing, such as Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, it is important that all students restart computers on the FCPS network. In-person students will do this as part of the scheduled in-person school day. For virtual only students, we invite families to walk or drive to the school at a convenient time for you and allow your child to bring his/her computer close to the front door of the school building in order to connect to the FCPS wifi. Once connected, please have your child restart his or her computer. This will greatly support efficiency of the laptop and ensure that it is up-to-date with current technology requirements.

PTA Board Openings
The Weyanoke Elementary PTA is excited to announce openings for several new board member volunteers for the '21-'22 school year. Openings are available for President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved, support the work of the school and help improve student engagement and learning. No experience is needed, just a desire to make our school community even stronger. We need your help to continue this important function of our school.
