Weekly Community Principal's Message

Dear Bulldog Family--

I hope that you are all doing well! The arrival of 4th quarter seems to coincide with the arrival of Spring, and I hope that you have been able to enjoy the weather. We certainly have a packed schedule this Spring with a variety of events including an outdoor Theater Performance, Athletic Contests, an outdoor Band Event, and many more. Please make sure to check out the website to see when these are happening!

As you will see below, there is a lot of information. Please take the time to check it out. One thing I wanted to directly address is graduation. I understand that graduation was originally scheduled for June 8th and that some of you may have already planned around that date. With Eagle Bank Arena becoming a vaccination site, we had to change venues and wanted something that could accommodate a large crowd and could provide a level of “day-of” certainty. Jiffy Lube was Live was the best option to accomodate our size while trying to include as many family members as possible. We are one of the fortunate schools that was able to keep a date so close to our original, but it still will not be the same as our first date. Instead, graduation will be the following afternoon, Wednesday, June 9th. I hope you understand our thought process and I appreciate your flexibility. We are doing our absolute best to provide a great senior experience for the remainder of the year and graduation is a big part of that.

I hope that you all have had a fantastic weekend and are ready to kick off a great week! I hope that you all have been able to enjoy a fantastic weekend! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, feedback or celebrations. You can also communicate directly through the form located here: https://forms.gle/4eW9rgPRVBF2a5gd8.

Go Bulldogs!

Graduation

Graduation will be held Wednesday, June 9th, at 2:00pm at Jiffy Lube Live. We will have more information forthcoming as it gets closer but I wanted to get you the date and time as soon as possible.

Grading Updates

As shared in an email from the Superintendent’s Office, FCPS has adopted a series of secondary grading policy changes to help our students achieve a strong finish to the school year.

FCPS is adjusting our grading policy for the 2020-21school year to ensure students are not penalized by the challenges brought on by pandemic learning.

Key policy changes for high school students are listed below:

  • Final Exam flexibility that ensures an exam can only serve to improve a student’s grade for the year. Teachers will apply this in their grading practices for each class.
  • Use of No Mark, “NM”, instead of “F” grades for all courses. This will be automatically applied for any course in which a student receives an “F.”
  • Allowing high school students to select a mark of “P” for pass for up to two courses for which a passing grade is earned for the final mark. As referenced above, for the 2020-21 school year, final marks of “F” will automatically receive a No Mark, “NM.”

Third quarter report cards and the Pass - No Mark Request Form will be available in ParentVue and mailed home to all families who have not selected “go paperless” on April 19th. Students and families are encouraged to carefully consider the option for Pass - No Mark status. Additional information including considerations for postsecondary opportunities and frequently asked questions are available at the following link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting/secondary
