1.Parent Action Needed Concerning SOLs

As soon as we have our SOL schedule, we will publish that here and also notify families of virtual students who have chosen to have their students take the SOLs of the day and time for them to come into school for each test.

Please remember that if parents opt out of the SOLs because of any concerns about Covid-19, there will be no penalty to either the child or to our school. Your child will still be promoted to the next grade level and there will be no impact as far as advanced math or AAP services are concerned.

Parent Action Needed for SOLs:  If you have not yet responded to the parent form sent to you for your options for the SOLs, you have until Wednesday, April 14th to do that.

  • If you are the parent of a virtual student, we need you to give us an answer either way  - if you want your child to take the SOL or opt-out.
  • If you are the parent of an in-person student, we need you to fill out the form ONLY if you wish to opt out your child from the SOL testing.

Click here for the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfTHXhLV9G-NQfJsVbOXkrPQ1Ck3108vcBVbKcosGNf3z21dQ/viewform

As soon as we have your information from these forms, we will be able to finalize our testing numbers and sessions and will be able to communicate that schedule with you. Thank you for your cooperation.

2.Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2021-2022 School Year

Fairfax Villa ES needs your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2021, please fill out the form at https://fairfaxvillaes.fcps.edu/student-services/new-student-registration no later than March 26, 2021.  You can also find the survey of preschool children / kindergarten enrollment form on the reverse side of this letter.  Our kindergarten staffing of teachers and instructional assistants is based on our kindergarten enrollment and our first staffing meeting for the 2021-22 school year is in early April.  We appreciate you filling out the form by that date.

If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Fairfax Villa families who do not have children currently attending our school.

Please email any questions to Silvia Dossmann,  Fairfax Villa Student Information Assistant, at smdossmann@fcps.edu.

3.Sick Student Notification and Permission to Return to School/Child Care Form

Effective April 5, 2021, when a student remains home from in-person instruction due to COVID-Like Illness (CLI), the parent/guardian will NO LONGER need to provide the Sick Student Notification and Permission to Return to School/Child Care Form.

Rationale: American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) did not originally require this documentation for students staying home when sick. FCPS implemented this in an abundance of caution. With more students returning, requiring and monitoring additional documentation is unsustainable for staff.

The Sick Student Notification and Permission to Return to School/Child Care Form will continue to be required for the following situations and must be completed prior to the students return to in-person instruction:

  • Sent home due to COVID Like Illness (CLI)

  • Reports a positive COVID-19 test

  • Is instructed to quarantine by a medical provider or the FCHD

Additional acceptable documentation for student return to in-person following illness:

  • A health care practitioner note is also acceptable. The note is to be attached to the Return to School Form/Child Care and placed in the student’s cum folder.

  • If the student is returning from quarantine or isolation and has been under the advisement of the FCHD, a copy of the SARA alert form is also acceptable.

4.Calling All Photos!

What is a yearbook without photos? Our time is running out!

This year we would like to capture everything you have been doing at home during virtual learning.

Please share photos of your child learning virtually, playing outside, participating in spirit days, cooking, doing arts and crafts, practicing their instrument, creating science experiments, reading with pets, having fun over spring break, dancing for Boosterthon, or anything fun! We would love to include your memories of this school year in the yearbook!

Please send photos to be considered for the yearbook to: FairfaxVillaYearbook@gmail.com

If you missed the scheduled Picture Day, please send a portrait of your child (and the grade level) that we can include in the yearbook with their grade level peers. Please click on the google form below for directions on how to submit a photo of your child.  Please make sure the photo of your child is taken vertically, is not a full body photo, and is taken in front of a neutral background.

The deadline for both of these is April 12.

6.Positivity Information April 12 - 16

POSITIVITY CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE WEEK (April 12-16): FAIRNESS

What does FAIRNESS mean? You believe that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and treat everyone with respect.

WHY DOES IT MATTER? For individuals, cultivating the character strength of fairness is correlated with highly desirable developmental outcomes. It helps people to become trustworthy friends, responsible citizens, and generally moral people. Fairness is also essential for the good of the group. As individuals develop the capacity for moral reason they often find a strengthening of: the aptitude for self-reflection; self-awareness and self-confidence; and perspective taking.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” –U.S. DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
