Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Spring Break.  Our staff enjoyed their much deserved time away and we have now hit the ground running with our logistical planning for upcoming assessments here at school and in determining the feasibility for our in-person students to possibly transition to 4 days/week in-person learning. There is an extraordinary volume of details to work through in our planning, so the best ways you can help are to carefully read all communication from Stenwood and to promptly reply to any emails that require a response.

If you are the parent of a 3rd-6th grade student, please carefully attend to the eNotify message you received about our upcoming SOL tests.  For any 3rd-6th grade child that is participating fully virtually this school year, your response is needed on this Stenwood SOL Intent Form by Monday, April 12th. When we have all intentions from our virtual families and have finalized our plans for returning in-person students to 4 days/week of in-person instruction, we can work to confirm SOL testing dates and times and will share this information with families.  For now, here are the projected timelines:

Week of May 10th: 3rd-6th Grade READING SOLs

Week of May 17th: 3rd-6th Grade MATH SOLs

Week of May 24th: 5th Grade SCIENCE SOLs

(Virtual students will test on the Monday of each testing week; please complete the form by Monday, April 12th so that we can plan for your child’s participation.)

Stenwood’s PTA deserves a tremendous shout out for their help and we thank them and those of you who have funded our requests for tables to help us work through some of the logistical challenges in planning for 4 days.  This morning we received a GIANT shipment of tables!  We know some of you also are hoping to be able to donate needed items, and we are working on a few more ideas and will update the wishlist once we finalize a list.  We are grateful for the many ways you have shown your support and are thankful for such a generous community.  We would also like to thank the PTA for another assembly coming up this Monday, April 12th at 1:30pm: Mad Science will be presenting “Fire & Ice” and the link can be found in the All Students course in Schoology.

We hope to be able to communicate our plan Monday or Tuesday of next week, so please pay close attention to your email.

Positivity Project: Fairness

PP Logo

This week, we are focusing on Fairness. You believe that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and treat everyone with respect.

“Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.”

                                         ~Oscar Wilde

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • Do you consider yourself a fair person?
  • Would you say that fairness is important to you?
  • What would you do if you saw someone being unfair?

Curbside Library Checkout

Stingers can now go to Destiny Discover, the library catalog, and put books on hold!

Please note that the catalog may give you a pop-up message saying the book is ready – do not believe it!  Only come to the school AFTER you receive an email from us letting you know the items are ready and what time you’ll be able to pick them up. Be sure to mark your calendar because after one week, the books will be returned to the library so other students may enjoy them.

Click here for directions on how to put books on hold.

Need to return books?  You may return library books on Mondays from 2:30-3:30PM. Drop off location will be in the Kiss-n-Ride loop in the back of the school. As always, please contact Mrs. Cole, our librarian, if you have any questions.
