WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

newcollage

Students and staff created crazy hair styles on Wacky Hair Day last Friday.

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this past weekend. We saw a double rainbow Sunday evening after the rainstorm…a sign that good things are on the horizon.

As you know from my previous messages, FCPS has asked principals to look at expanding the placements for students to 4 days in person. We have been working to bring in as many students as possible given the constraints we have in place. We made our plans for in-person learning under the parameters of 2 days a week; therefore, there are many factors in addition to the actual space in the classroom that need to be accounted for to bring students in-person. For example, while CDC guidelines have indicated that masked students can learn at 3 feet of social distance, 6 feet social distance continues to be required for any mask-off activity, such as eating.

  • Because we are in the 4th quarter, we will no longer be changing student class assignments.
  • As a school we have varying in-person space available based on the actual square footage in each room. We have been identifying the students with greatest need when available spaces are limited. This includes reviewing students who have already been participating in interventions for academics or emotional concerns.
  • Virtual students will need to remain on the virtual schedule for the remainder of the school year.

As of this morning, we have contacted all of the students we were able to bring in for 4 days a week in our first round. Despite all of our best efforts, we will not be able to bring all students in person 4 days a week. School staff will reach out if there is additional space; there is no need to email your teachers or administration.

Thank you all for your continued support and flexibility. This has been a challenging year, and your partnership has been what has kept us moving in the right direction. We are planning for a full return in the fall.

Positivity Project: identifying and Appreciating the Good in Others

Identifying and appreciating the good in other people helps you see the world through a more positive lens.  If you see the good in another, they’re likely to see the good in you.  That’s a great foundation to start an interpersonal relationship – and a group culture.

Student Intentions for the Next School Year - due April 15

Before spring break, WFES families received Student Intentions for the Next School Year forms in the U.S. mail.  The information we gather from these forms is vital for membership and staffing purposes as we plan for the 2021-2022 school year.  Please complete the form for each student and send it back with your student if in person, drop it off, or scan/email the form to Ms. Holmes at KSholmes@fcps.edu  At this point, if you cannot find your copy of the form, please let Ms. Holmes know if your children are not returning to WFES or going to Frost MS in the fall.  We'd like all responses by this Thursday, April 15.

Purple

April is Month of Military Child

Did you know that more than 14,000 military-connected youth call FCPS home? Join FCPS in celebrating them during Month of the Military Child. Wednesday, April 21, is Purple Up! Day, when all are encouraged to wear purple in recognition of the strength and sacrifices of military-connected youth. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.

Growing Systems Grant News

As we previously announced, Wakefield Forest was rewarded a grant to develop an educational and interactive STEAM project involving the growth, maintenance, and analysis of three growing systems.  Under the leadership of Tony Gray, WFES Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, students will experience the various phases of growing plants using three different techniques: Aquaponics, Hydroponics, and Traditional Soil Farming.  To learn more about this exciting endeavor, use your student's FCPS google account to access Mr. Gray's Solarponics site:
