GBW Welcomes In-Person Students 4 Days / Week Starting 4/20
GBW is thrilled to announce that starting on April 20th, we will be inviting all of our students who currently attend in-person instruction to join us for 4 days a week of in-person instruction (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays). This change is in response to Dr. Brabrand’s recent announcement that FCPS would be extending in-person learning to 4 days as school capacity allows. Please note that this change does not impact families who are currently virtual, and that we at GBW are not currently accepting requests to change from virtual to in-person.
Dinner with Principals - Fried Rice Coming on 4/29
On Thursday, April 29th we will be hosting our next Dinner with Principals event. Based on the student vote at our last event, students selected Fried Rice for this event! More details including ingredients and a recipe will be coming soon. Please mark your calendars!
Schedule for 4/29:
6:30 – 7:15 Dinner with Principals
7:30 – 8:30 PTA Meeting
In order to help with the flow of traffic during arrival and dismissal, parents are reminded of the following:
- Drivers must approach the school entrance by taking a right from Poplar Tree Rd. Drivers taking a right from Poplar Tree Road into the school entrance have the right of way.
- Drivers leaving the school must take a right onto Poplar Tree Road. This ensures an efficient flow for Kiss and Ride cars.
Please refer to the map below. This traffic pattern will be especially important as our Kiss & Ride traffic increases due to the return of in-person students to four days a week beginning April 20.
We thank you for helping us make school arrival and dismissal a safe and efficient process.
Deadline is April 12!

College Funding Coach - Free Webinar for Parents TONIGHT!
LEARN HOW TO SEND YOUR KIDS TO COLLEGE WITHOUT GOING BROKE!
On average, tuition tends to increase about 8% per year. An 8% college inflation rate means that the cost of college doubles about every nine years. Planning for these expenses has become essential. Some families have children attending college next year and others have years to plan, but the fears of tackling these monumental and rising costs are the same.
The College Funding Coach is here to help families figure out HOW to pay for it and still retire one day. You'll discover strategies that may enable you to qualify for financial aid, sources for scholarships, and strategies for maximizing your wealth and minimizing your tax exposure, giving you greater cash flow for funding a college education.
Please join the GBW PTA in a free ZOOM webinar on April 8 @ 7 PM by The College Funding Coach. This is information you can't afford to miss! Register today: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/6716143661603/WN_Q6BcaSugRbimYnbHpJW_0A

GBW PTA Membership Award
On Monday, March 15th, the Virginia PTA recognized the Greenbriar West PTA with an award at their Annual Meeting!
Last year, despite lower school enrollment from the 2018-19 school year, the GBW PTA achieved a 100% increase in membership!
Kudos to all our PTA members but especially to our 2019-20 PTA Board who put in many hours last year of planning, doing personal outreach, writing effective membership communications, signing up members at Open House/Back to School, etc. to achieve this amazing goal!
President: Jen Manaloto VP: Amrinder Arora Treasurer: Emily Youngs Secretary: Tammy Miller Membership Coordinator: Shannon Stockton
It’s not too late to join the PTA!
Thank you to the 99 parents (18% of all GBW Parents) and 38 staff members (45% of all GBW Staff) who became PTA members this year! Despite not being able to hold traditional in-person events and activities, the PTA has been working all year to support our GBW Community! COVID-19 has meant that the needs of our school have changed, and our PTA has shifted focus to respond and support these new needs, for example:
- providing virtual community events such as BINGO and the College Funding Coach webinar,
- providing staff with direct classroom support in order to make sure they have the necessary tools to teach our students,
-
purchasing PPE for staff and students to have on hand in the building,
- providing a COVID-19 GBW Counselors Discretion fund to support our families in need,
- AND MORE!
It is never too late to show your support by becoming a PTA member today! You may purchase a $20 (Family), $15 (Individual), or $10 (Staff) membership here: https://gbwpta.ptboard.com
A strong school community like GBW needs a strong PTA membership for support. Thank you!
