In person students review their letters with Ms. Delahay as they prepare for dismissal. They enjoyed this active, fun way to finish their day.

Updated In-Person Days

We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Spring Break. As we begin the final quarter of the school year, we are evaluating our ability to bring some students into school four days a week by the end of April. As FCPS has shared over the past few days, the ability for each school to increase the number of students attending four days a week will be based on community COVID transmission rates, available space and staffing capability. I have included some of the information from the Superintendent’s letter below. Please note that ALL classes may change from 6ft of social distancing to 3ft of social distancing (except when students are eating).

From Dr. Brabrand’s Message:

These expanded opportunities are based on two factors:

  • Updated CDC guidance as of March 12, 2021, which allows schools the opportunity to transition from 6 feet to 3 feet of social distancing in some circumstances, and within certain community transmission rates.
  • Each school’s available space (classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, etc.) and staffing capacity.

Starting the weeks of April 6 and April 13, FCPS will:

  • Offer four days of in-person instruction to PreK-12 students who are experiencing the greatest learning challenges, as identified by school personnel using the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with consideration of the school’s capacity, staffing, and associated current level of community transmission.
  • Continue to provide bus transportation for these students as needed.

Starting the week of April 20, FCPS will:

  • Offer four days of in-person instruction to PreK-12 students whose families identified a preference for in-person instruction since fall and are already attending two-days in-person with consideration of the school’s capacity, staffing, and associated current level of community transmission.
  • Contact families of students eligible to return under this scenario during the week of April 13.
  • Expand bus transportation for those already attending in-person starting the week of April 20.

Please be aware that our space at Weyanoke is very limited because 57% of our students are currently attending school in-person. If you are interested in being added to the waitlist to have your child attend four days a week in-person, please email dlwalsh1@fcps.edu. If we have space available, you will be contacted starting the week of April 20.

New Date for Kindergarten Orientation

Do you have a rising kindergartener or know any families in the neighborhood with rising kindergarteners? We will be hosting a virtual orientation for families on Monday, April 19 at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You only need to attend one session. During this time you will be able to meet members of our staff and learn a little bit about how you can prepare your child for kindergarten.

Please help us get the word out.

School Picture Day Retake

We will be having Picture Day Retakes on Monday, April 12 from 9:00-2:00 p.m., This year the process will be different, pictures will be taken by family instead of by class. If you did not get to take pictures in February this is the last chance for the 2020/2021 school year. Please note that photos taken on April 12 will NOT appear in the school yearbook. To sign-up for a time slot for the Weyanoke students in your family please Click here. Families may order photos at www.MyLifetouch.com  using the picture day ID: EVT6FMFH4 (The Picture Day ID expires at midnight on 4/12/2021.)

Pictures will be taken in the Cafeteria at your scheduled time. One parent and student(s) will enter through door #2 (cafeteria door). Families will have to fill out the visitor form before entering the building, we will have a QR code at the door that you can scan with your mobile device camera and complete onsite. Safety protocols must be followed before entering the building. Everyone present MUST always wear a face covering. Student(s) and parent will arrive with masks on and the students should be camera ready (jackets already removed, etc.) When it is their turn, students will step into the picture taking area and will remove their mask and hold it in their hand until their photo is finished. Parents are NOT allowed in the picture taking area. (Hands will not show in the finished image.) After the picture is taken, the student is instructed to place the mask back on and then exit through the designated door.

If you have any questions, please contact Dorothy Walsh at dlwalsh1@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-813-5400.
