Hero Squad

Hero Squad Campaign

Over the next three weeks (April 12-April 30), our school will be participating in the Hero Squad campaign, formerly known as Pennies for Patients. Our school goal this year is to raise $5000. We are so excited to be able to raise money to help find a cure for Blood Cancer and to support the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. This year, our campaign will be 100% virtual. In order to donate, please do one of the following:

  1. Donate on our school’s online donation page at https://events.lls.org/pages/nca/PoplarTreeElementarySchool-2020-2021
  2. Donate on your child’s classroom donation page. Check in with your child’s classroom teacher for more information and their specific link.
  3. We encourage you to share these links with family members, community members, and through social media to help us raise as much money as possible.

Students will earn a variety of prizes for online donations this year. Prizes earned will be mailed directly to your home at the close of the campaign.

Please contact Mrs. Sniffin, SCA teacher sponsor, at smsniffin@fcps.edu if you have any further questions. Thank you so much for your support of this wonderful cause!

7th grade

Rising 7th Grade

Tdap Immunization Requirement

Virginia Law requires that all students entering seventh grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of eleven.

For your child to begin 7th grade you will need to submit one of the following documents before the first day of school.  It is recommended that all paperwork be submitted to the school office by July 31, 2021.

Acceptable documentation can be one of the following:

  1. A copy of your child’s immunization record showing the Tdap vaccine.
  2. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the Tdap vaccine was given.
  3. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at:

http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf

The Tdap booster is available from your child’s healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department Clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/clinics or by calling 703-246-2411. Please note that students receiving immunizations at the Health Department must be accompanied by an adult and should bring their immunization records with them.

Seventh grade students will not be allowed to begin school in August 2021 without submitting proper documentation.

tech help

Tech Help Info

We know that as we move through Virtual Learning, technology issues arise. If you're having trouble with your FCPS laptop, here's a few things to try:

  1. Restart your computer! (We have found that this solves MANY of our problems - including those microphone, camera, and sound issues!)
  2. Visit this webpage to checkout some self-help guides!
  3. FCPS has launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The help desk can be reached at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and will be answered by staff members between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.
  4. If you still cannot get your laptop working, students and/or parents can submit an IT support ticket to get help with district digital resources or your FCPS issued laptop.  Find the portal here.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding!

PTA Online Auction

The Online Auction is Coming and We Need Help!

Poplar Tree's annual Online Auction will be May 2nd - 4th this year! In order for this popular event to happen, we need your help! Please contact Brooke Smith to contribute either or both of the following:

1. Goods or services to donate: Poplar Tree families are very talented and resourceful! Please consider donating goods or specialty services to the Auction.

2. Help soliciting donations: While the pandemic has had a detrimental effect on many businesses, there are several that are thriving during this time. For ease, we have lists and templates to use, or feel free to use your own contacts!
