Gator Bytes: Weekly News and General Information for Kings Glen

Advanced Academics Program (AAP) Screening for the 2021-22 School Year

We are beginning our spring screening for school-based AAP services for the 2021-2022 school year soon!  Parents or guardians may initiate the screening for school-based (Level II and III) services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form  to the AART at Kings Glen prior to spring screening by April 23 (more information and referral forms available at here).

Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services.  Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by Kings Glen Elementary of their student’s eligibility status by June 1. Please contact our AART, Rebecca Canty, at rmcanty@fcps.edu with any questions.

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child

Each year, our nation designates April as the Month of the Military Child to recognize and thank children from military families for the sacrifices they make living the military lifestyle.  Kings Glen is proud to recognize all military-connected Gators.  We will be having a spirt week April 19-23, to include “Purple Up!” day on April 21st.  Visit the FCPS Resources for Military Families page for more information.

Attendance

Teachers take class attendance daily by 9:30 a.m. When a student is not present in the classroom whether virtually or in-person, he/she is marked unverified which initiates an automated phone call, text and email. This ensures parents are notified promptly if their child is not participating in class.

If your child will be absent or cannot participate virtually, please notify Kings Glen by emailing our attendance mailbox or calling the attendance line with the reason for the absence so we can update your child's attendance.

Attendance Phone Line:  703-239-4040

Attendance Mailbox:  KGNotes@fcps.edu

Breakfast and Lunch for our Gators

Students will be served cold, grab and go style meals at school for breakfast and lunch. These are free for all students.

Menu: fcps.nutrislice.com

Grab and Go School Sites and meal delivery bus routes: fcps.edu/return-school/food

Students can also bring their lunch from home in a disposable or reusable container.

school bus

Here Comes the Bus!

Would you like to check if your child's bus is running late? Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Transportation offers two different ways you can access information on your child's bus arrival information.

Bus Delay Notification System - This gives you FCPS School Bus Delays for both AM & PM.

Here Comes the Bus - This is a school bus tracking app that provides parents/guardians with real-time bus locations through text or email alerts. A Student Information System (SIS) parent account is required to download the app. The app tracks the bus route-not the student.

laptop

A Reminder to Restart laptops

This is a quick reminder that students should "restart" school issued laptops once a week.  This is not just "shutting down" after school ends and starting the next morning but rather selecting restart and having the laptop reboot.  This allows the laptop to perform updates.  Many technical issues can be resolved through a "restart" rather than a "shut down".
