Dr. Brabrand will be sharing the latest information based on the Governor’s Executive Order and will take your questions. Please join us by watching on Channel 99 or the livestream on the FCPS website at https://www.fcps.edu/tv/ch99. Please send your questions in advance to returntoschool@fcps.edu or call 1-800-231-6359 during the town hall.

4th Quarter Catch-Up Days

Due to the amount of standardized testing scheduled for the remainder of the school year, our 4th quarter catch-up days will be established at the teacher/ team level.  Students will be afforded a catch-up day in all of their classes, however, they will be on the date decided upon by the class period teacher.  Students will be informed of their catch-up days by their teachers for their planning purposes.   All catch-up days will be held in the month of April.

Attendance Update

Teachers are using a new attendance code = SYV if a student scheduled for In-Person instruction is not present in-person but logged in from home. The SYV code will trigger an automatic attendance notification.

If you are planning to keep your In-Person student at home for illness or excusable absences please continue contact the school attendance line 703-319-2727  / or online attendance form. In those cases, students will be marked with an SYC code.  This is not a code indicating an absence.  It merely indicates that your child is accessing synchronously via virtual means. This is crucial for us to be able to have accurate rosters of who is in the building at any given time.

If you intend for your student to not return in person (if you have selected this option) please contact your students school counselor and administrator. Moving forward students scheduled for in-person instruction who have not yet attended school in-person may be switched to virtual instruction for the remainder of the school year.

Third Period Return Schedule

Last week we began our new third period return schedule.  The calendars for third period will continue to be posted on the OHS Student Website.  It can also be found here for your reference.

FCPSOn Laptop Support

Do you need help with your student FCPS laptop? Families with virtual students should make an appointment rather than just stopping in.  This will ensure that our technology team will be available without a long wait.  With students in the building and a full testing schedule, this will help ensure an efficient process for all.   Please fill out a ticket indicating what your issue is and a member of our tech team will contact you to either provide remote support or schedule an appointment. In-person students are welcome to stop into the Technology Office throughout the school day.

Skill, Not Will: The Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach Webinar for Families

Join us for the important session to learn some key strategies from the Collaborative Problem Solving® approach to manage challenging behavior.

The Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach:

  • Promotes the understanding that challenging kids lack the skill (problem-solving, flexibility, and frustration tolerance) - not the will - to behave
  • Focuses on collaborating with the child/youth/young adult to solve the problems leading to challenging behavior and building the skills they need to succeed.

Avoid the use of power, control, and use motivational procedures instead.

Presented by staff from United Methodist Family Services: Carmen Dailey, Organizational Learning Manager, and CPS Certified Trainer.
