Message from the Principal

Hello Wolftrap Parents,

I hope this message finds you and your children rested after Spring Break. My family and I enjoyed the week unplugged from work and school for some much needed family time.

With only 10 weeks left of the 20-21 school year, the updated CDC guidance brings about some new challenges, and yet some exciting opportunities.

As you saw from Dr. Brabrand’s announcement on Monday, schools in FCPS are making operational and logistical plans to return as many students as possible to in-person learning. After completing an extensive analysis of our capacity as it relates to the updated three-foot guidance, I am thrilled to announce that ALL Wolftrap students currently attending in-person will be attending four days, in-person, beginning Tuesday, April 13. This massive undertaking does not come without complications. Although students may now be three feet apart in the classrooms, they must still remain six feet apart while eating.

Adding so many additional students will require us to change our lunch procedures and a majority of students will be removed from classrooms to eat in the cafeteria or other designated lunch locations. Please make sure your child knows that their class will be rotating students to an alternate eating location. As has been our practice since we returned to school, snack will occur outdoors during the assigned morning mask break time. If the weather does not allow this opportunity, teachers will be assigning students to eat snack in rotations to ensure that students are not unmasked and eating at the three foot distance. This will also apply to the morning meal, if students choose to eat breakfast.

We are not redesigning our master schedule or making changes to staff schedules this late in the school year, with SOL testing beginning in just a few short weeks. It will not be possible at this time to change teacher assignments and unbalance class sizes to allow for virtual students to change their preference.

Special education students may still have some of their small group pullout time scheduled virtually. One of our monitors will be taking students to a small room so they can meet with their virtual teacher/staff member for their virtual small groups. Other changes will occur, including some classrooms being assigned a new location. At all times, adults need to maintain six feet of social distance among other adults and when interacting with students. The updated CDC guidance pertains to the distance among students only.

Please be mindful that this increase of students will inevitably cause more traffic in Kiss-N-Ride, so it is vital that you post your number in your windshield prior to arriving on school property. This will also cause more foot traffic on campus, so please remember to social distance during arrival and dismissal and to please leave the premises promptly.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience as we navigate these new changes. The support of our Wolftrap families has been deeply appreciated!

Sincerely,
Teresa Khuluki

LAPTOP BEST PRACTICES

As we enter our last quarter, we want to remind families about best practices for using FPCS School-Issued laptops:

  • Plug in and fully charge your FCPS school-issued laptop
  • Make restarting (not shutting down) your laptop at least one time a week part of your routine. Depending on the last time you restarted your laptop it might take more than two or three restarts to apply all pending updates.
  • After you sign in, click on the FCPSOn Healthcheck icon on your desktop for reboot information
  • Make sure you keep your laptop and charger in a safe and secure location

Wofltrap PTAVolunteer Heart

The Talent Show Committee put on a smashingly good show adapting to a format that we have never done before here at Wolftrap. In the face of the virtual challenge, our talent show committee, gathered all the acts, professionally strung them together, communicated consistently and EVEN brought us an encore. The Wolftrap Community and PTA want to say thanks to our Talent Show Committee for their time and effort. Debbie Rhoda Choate, Tara Holtaway, Courtney McCreesh, Ola Chang, and Mona Ghoudarzi, you put together a wonderful event we will never forget!

There are only two more PTA meetings left. Our next PTA meeting is April 12th at 8am. Our hat theme this month is tropical/sun hats. Register to join here and a Google Meets link will be sent to you the Sunday prior to the meeting.

Food for Others: Volunteers Needed

FCPS has generously sponsored free breakfast and lunch for every student in the county. While this is an amazing benefit, we are worried that much of the food will go to waste at our school. Therefore in our continued partnership with Food for Others we are looking for volunteers to drive the unused meals to the food pantry in Merrifield on Fridays afterschool.

If you are able to help, please sign up using this sign up genius. Contact Liz Finnerty or Michelle Scalise with any questions.

Wolftrap Talent Show Recap

WTE Virtual Talent Show

BIG THANKS to all the students, staff, volunteers and families who participated in the virtual talent show this year. Everyone who contributed did an amazing job to help put together a really FUN experience for our community during a time when we simply could not experience the show in person!

Overall we showcased 60 acts including: 57 student acts, a 6th grade showcase with 41 student participants, and two staff acts consisting of 12 WTE team members. Between the two broadcasted performances, the show was viewed 465 times (WOW, that’s a lot)! We could not be more proud of our Wolftrap community and are grateful for the outpouring of support for this alternate version of our traditional show. Thank you Wolftrap!!
