Spring Break #12

spring

Enjoy your spring break!

School and Offices closed

School and offices will be closed during Spring break, March 29 - April 2.  We have a student holiday on Monday, April 5th. We look forward to seeing our students in class on Tuesday, April 6.

SOL Testing Information

Federal and State Education Departments have not canceled this year’s assessments. Given this, Standards of Learning (SOL) tests will take place this spring in FCPS for grades 3-8. Kilmer is in the process of finalizing specific testing dates for students. For initial planning with your family, be aware that we are scheduling testing during the following weeks:

Week of May 10th: Reading tests

Week of May 17th: Science 8 tests

Week of May 24th: Math tests

More information is available about SOL assessments at each grade level. For students attending school 100% virtually, school staff will work with families to schedule an appointment for in-person SOL testing.

Caregivers have the right to refuse SOL assessments if they have concerns about participation related to the pandemic, including health, social-emotional, and instructional time concerns.  More information will be provided on Thursday, April 1.

To help you better understand SOL testing, and your options, we will be holding a Parent Information Session on Wednesday, April 7 at 6 PM.  A Blackboard Collaborate link will be sent out closer to the meeting.  Please help us with the planning for this meeting by submitting questions using this form.

What’s on the Shelf: News from the Kilmer Library

As of this week, all branches of the Fairfax County Public Library have re-opened for in-person services. Visits are limited to 30 minutes for browsing the shelves, using a computer, and checking out. Hours for all FCPL branches are Monday–Tuesday 10am–8pm, Wednesday–Saturday 10am–6pm. The public library continues to offer curbside services as well.

Also: a reminder that at the Kilmer, we have ebooks and audiobooks available for students to access through MackinVIA and Teen Book Library. Ebooks are useful for reading on a computer or tablet. And we love audiobooks for long walks or car rides -- take a look at this video to see how to access these resources.
