Dear Parents:
Across Virginia, students will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this spring. Federal and state education departments have decided not to cancel this year’s assessments. Federal law requires schools to give SOL tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Science.
As we prepare for spring assessments, we need to collect information about your intentions for SOL tests. Please contact Tia Hawkins, tnhawkins@fcps.edu, Assistant Principal, if you have questions.
All parents are asked to complete this online SOL Testing Intent Form by April 8th, 2021.
You have the right to refuse any SOL assessments this spring. The Right to Refuse Assessments webpage offers information and considerations as you make this decision.
- All SOL tests are taken in-person at school (testing schedule below). SOL tests are not available for remote delivery from home.
- Fully virtual students will be scheduled to take their SOLs on Mondays. Bus transportation is available, upon request, on the SOL Testing Intent Form . However, parent provided transportation is the preferred method.
- VDOE announced a new assessment option for students who attend fully virtually and whose caregivers have refused the in-person SOL test. VDOE intends to share details about this Virginia Remote Student Progress Monitoring Test shortly. This assessment will not be an online SOL test.
*If you know your student will be absent on one or more of their test dates, please indicate that on the SOL Testing Intent Form .
Teachers will assign asynchronous work for students who are not testing on a particular day.
We will host an SOL information night virtually on Tuesday, April 6th at 6:00-6:30 PM to answer any questions you may have. The link is here to join virtually.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions please contact Tia Hawkins, Assistant Principal at tnhawkins@fcps.edu.
