FCPS In Person Learning Update

We are happy to have students back to virtual and in-person classes this week as we start the fourth quarter journey together. The headlines from yesterday’s FCPS messaging about expanding in person learning has generated questions that we want to try and help clarify. The impact of social distancing going from six feet to three feet will look different at every school and while unfortunately it is not an open invitation to anyone who wants to be in school four days; we want you to know we are working hard to maximize this expansion at Kings Park ES.

Here are a couple of pieces of information that we think will be helpful for you to know as we plan our next steps:

  • Kings Park staff will continue using the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) process to identify students for four days of instruction. (You can read more about MTSS here.)
  • We will assess our available staffing and space availability including current occupancy, size of classrooms, furniture, and lunchroom space. *In contrast to the required 3 feet apart during instruction, schools need sufficient space for all students to eat lunch without a mask, 6’ apart while all facing the same direction
  • Every student will be considered individually and can result in siblings with different attendance schedules.

Given this information, starting this week KPES will:

  • Assess each grade level/class’s capacity for adding additional students.
  • Begin to identify students via our MTSS process to attend four days week.
  • Determine any additional in person learning opportunities for students currently attending two days a week
  • Be in touch with families that will be impacted by this recent development.

We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and understanding as we navigate the latest change in guidance

Here Comes the Bus!

Would you like to check if your child's bus is running late? Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Transportation offers two different ways you can access information on your child's bus arrival information.

Bus Delay Notification System - This gives you FCPS School Bus Delays for both AM & PM.

Here Comes the Bus - This is a school bus tracking app that provides parents/guardians with real-time bus locations through text or email alerts. A Student Information System (SIS) parent account is required to download the app. The app tracks the bus route-not the student.
