NEW News

1. Message from Dr. Floyd

Hello Woodson Families and Happy SPRING BREAK!

Please know the Woodson main office will be closed over Spring Break.   If you have an emergency and need to get ahold of an administrator, please email Mr. Checkosky at djcheckosky@fcps.edu or Mr. Peters at fjpeters@fcps.edu

Monday, April 5th is a Teacher Workday with no synchronous or asynchronous activities for students. Tuesday, April 6th is the first day of the fourth quarter.

I wish all of our families a restful break. When we return we will have final information on graduation (still tentatively set for Wednesday, June 2nd), prom and All Night Grad Party. The Division is interpreting the Governor’s order to make sure we follow the guidance provided by the state. I appreciate your patience as we navigate this continued pandemic and the variations of guidance that have come out.

Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Dr. Floyd

Also, Woodson Weekly will be on Spring Break next week.  See you on April 9th.

4. VMEA Honors Choir

Seniors Dylan Dipasupil and Luke Yoon represented Woodson in the Senior Honors Choir after a successful audition. The 2020-2021 VMEA Honors Choir performance was virtual this year. You can watch the performance at this link.

5. All-Virginia Honors Band and Orchestra

Congratulations to the four Woodson band and three orchestra students that were selected by audition to perform with the 2021 All-Virginia Band and All Virginia Orchestra. They competed against the best players from across the Commonwealth and were selected only after a rigorous audition process.

This is quite an accomplishment and a huge honor for these students. It represents years of hard work and study on their part and we are proud of their selection!

Krystine Tran - oboe, Joanna Chappell - clarinet, Sam Park – alto saxophone, Josh Park - percussion, Derek Song - percussion, Kristine Han - violin, Megan Yi, violin, Nick Brenner, cello.

AJ Wang March Madness Winner

6. Senior March Madness Bracket Winner

Congratulations to Woodson senior, Austin James Wang (AJ). Austin recently participated in the County-Wide Talent Show March Madness Bracket. AJ was declared the winner by his peers and will go on to compete against seniors at other Fairfax County Public Schools.

11. Diverse Books

The Equity Team will feature several photos from our faculty and staff, students, and parents reading diverse books in the Woodson Weekly. Please complete the Google form and share a picture of yourself with the diverse book that you are currently reading or plan on reading. Creating content that is diverse and inclusive is critical to learner success. Research has shown that diverse representation can help close gender and race gaps in education, and can create inclusive and productive course communities for all learners. Thus educators, parents, and guardians have an important role to play in creating diverse and inclusive content. If you are interested please share your photo using this Google form.

Equity Lead, Margie Shapiro, is reading, The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears, by Dinaw Mengestu.

Each year, FCPS students can apply for the position of the student representative to the School Board. The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of the students of Fairfax County Public Schools.

Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply, and they do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC). Applications are due by April 7.

15. Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team.

Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.
