A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

As we look ahead, the third quarter is coming to an end on Friday, March 26th, which is also an early release day for students  We encourage all of our students and parents to check StudentVue to know what assignments might be missing. We also encourage families to reach out to their teachers and counselor if they have questions.

As a reminder, our catch-up days are Thursday, March 25, and Friday, March 26.  Students will report to class for attendance, work on assignments, and get help from their teachers.  Students scheduled to attend in-person will come to Justice on their designated day.

FCPS has provided some updated information regarding travel guidance and end-of-year ceremonies. For more information see section below.

Updated CDC Guidance on Social Distancing in Schools

Updated CDC guidance released on March 19 allows schools to adjust social distancing from six feet to three feet with universal masking in classroom settings. We are very encouraged by the new guidance. FCPS will be reviewing the new guidance with schools, the Fairfax County Health Department, and other stakeholders this coming week, and we will be proposing next steps once we have completed a thorough review. In the meantime, we will continue to follow the CDC’s recommended mitigation strategies to keep students and staff safe in schools.

Spring Break Travel

Spring break is just around the corner. Here are some tips to be aware of as families and FCPS staff make plans:

2021 End-of-Year Ceremonies

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to and planning to hold in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021. While traditional venues will most likely not be available in June, we are actively exploring other venue options.

Governor Northam has updated guidance for in-person graduation ceremonies, indoor and outdoor social gatherings, and public health and space restrictions for certain outdoor sports and entertainment venues. We are currently working through these new guidelines to understand the health and safety requirements and laws for culminating events such as graduation: All Night Graduation parties, prom, and end- of-year celebrations for our elementary and secondary students.

We will promptly notify school staff, students, and parents as soon as we have the additional and plans.

Fairfax County School Board Adopts Calendar

The Fairfax County School Board has voted to approve a calendar for the 2021-22 School Year that is designed to recognize, respect, and honor the plurality of religious and cultural observances in Fairfax County.

The calendar, which recognizes 15 religious and cultural observances in the school year, while also decoupling Good Friday from Spring Break, ensures students will not have to make choices between observing their religious or cultural observance, or taking a test this coming school year.
