Waples Mill Updates 3/19/2021

Good Afternoon Waples Mill Families,

Here are this week's updates:

Kindergarten Registration Information for the 2021-2022 School Year:

Virginia State law requires that children who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2021 are eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten.  Students whose fifth birthday falls after September 30, 2021 are not eligible to enroll.  If you have a child eligible for kindergarten to begin this August, please view the information at the following link to begin the registration process:

https://waplesmilles.fcps.edu/student-services/student-registration

If you have further questions, please contact our registrar, Carla Collins, chcollins@fcps.edu, 703-390-7700.

Student Intentions for the Next School Year (2021-2022):

If your child/children (Kindergarten through Grade 6) will be attending another school in Fairfax County or outside of Fairfax County Public Schools (public or private) for the next school year (2021-2022), please fill out the Student Intentions form, which can be accessed at the following link:

https://waplesmilles.fcps.edu/announcements/students-intentions-2021-2022-school-year

Please email the completed form to Carla Collins, Registrar, chcollins@fcps.edu.  Parents of students who are transferring to another school need to start the registration process with the new school as soon as possible.  A transcript will be sent to the new school upon receipt of a records request to Carla Collins.

Please note:  If your child will be joining us at Waples Mill again next year, there is no need to fill out the form. Your child’s record will automatically roll back into our Student Information System and no new registration paperwork is required for the new school year.

Kiss and Ride Reminders

Please follow the procedures below to help make Kiss and Ride as safe and efficient as possible:

  • Please pull as far forward as you can when you get to the loading and unloading area.
  • The Kiss and Ride line will be staffed beginning at 9:30 AM. Please have your child remain in the vehicle until a staff member motions for them to exit.
  • Students should exit and enter the right side of the vehicle, closest to the sidewalk.
  • We ask that parents/guardians remain in their vehicle during arrival and dismissal.

Thank you for your continued support.

Spring Break Travel Guidance from Fairfax County Public Schools

Planning to Travel Over Spring Break? Here's the Guidance:

Spring break is just around the corner. Here are some tips to be aware of as you make plans to travel:

  • The Virginia Department of Health urges all Virginians to avoid non-essential travel, especially if you are at higher risk of serious COVID-19 or if you will be visiting someone at higher risk of serious COVID-19. This recommendation applies to everyone, even if you have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have fully recovered from COVID-19.
  • FCPS does not currently have travel restrictions. Students are not required to quarantine or provide COVID-19 test results for either domestic or international travel. Parents may opt to keep their students at home for 14 days after they return from travel, however, it is not required.
  • Per the Student Health and Safety Guidance Document, a Daily Health Screening Questionnaire will be required for all students attending in-person instruction. These daily health screening questionnaires will be completed on an honor basis and will not be required to be submitted to the school.
  • Upon returning, any student, staff or visitor demonstrating symptoms of illness is asked to stay home to help “Stop the Spread” of COVID-19.

Updates and more information are available online

FCPS Family Guide for Return to School

A FCPS Family Guide is available on the FCPS website.  The information in this guide will help families know what to expect as students return to school. The guide includes steps families will need to take at home in preparation for the return to school. Please take time to review the information.
