Equity Corner

March is Women’s History Month- a month in which we celebrate the contributions women have made in history. When children ask why we have a Women’s History Month, Regin Muradian, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist and author, says, “You can tell your children, ‘We celebrate things so we don’t forget them. We celebrate so we can honor how hard women fought to get to where they are today.’ Then they will associate Women’s History Month with importance, so they can keep it going.”

How to Celebrate Women’s History Month at Home:

  • Play a game- research facts about famous women, write them down on scraps of paper, and play “Guess Who?”
  • Read Together- click this link for read alouds about important women from each state. (you will have to be logged into your child’s FCPS account to access)
  • Show gratitude- while we focus a lot on famous women to celebrate, we can also celebrate the women in our lives. Your child can write thank you notes to women in their life.

Remember diversity as you are picking out books and playing games. Choose women of all races, ethnicities, and abilities.

Tech Tips

Quick sweet useful shortcuts

All students need to RESTART laptops to get updates – every day is best. Turn on, log in.  Navigate to lowest left corner window icon. Click “power”, click “restart”.  Wait for everything to update.  Log in and use.   This way the lack of an update will not slow anyone down during a lesson.   Be sure when you shut down for the day that you navigate to this same power button and shut down.

Reminder:  Students need to bring charged laptops to school and home every day.

All students should be prepared to have their own personal drawing supplies ready to use during weekly Art classes.  In-person students that have art class in the building should bring supplies and artworks to and from school and home.  A sketchbook or folder to organize and keep artworks is recommended.

Please make sure your student has the following drawing supplies for online and in-person Art classes.

ALL STUDENTS:  Paper, Sketchbook/Notebook

KINDERGARTEN – Grade 2:  Crayons

GRADES: 3 & 4:   Crayons or Colored Pencils
