NEW News

1. Message from Dr. Floyd

Hello Woodson Families,

Again this week, we are sadden by yet another senseless act of violence in our country. Our staff grieves with those impacted by this violence. Anti- Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate impacts our students, families and communities. To be clear, we stand in solidarity with the AAPI communities. Woodson does not condone any acts of harassment or violence of any kind. Acts of hate - of any kind - have no place in our school, system or community. Should you experience such behavior at school please reach out to a trusted adult, tell your parents and let us know.

We are committed to Woodson HS being a safe and welcoming place for ALL students.  Feel free to email me directly (cefloyd@fcps.edu) with any suggestions, comments or concerns so that I may hear you, share with staff and ensure Woodson is a safe space for ALL our students and families.

As you may be aware, next Friday is a 2 hour early release as it is the last day of the third quarter. FCPS requires each class to have a "catch up" day every quarter. Please know that while some teachers have already completed their catch up day, many are planning to have this on the last two days of the quarter next week. "Catch up" days are for teachers to be available to help students with questions or to get caught up in class. While some teachers may have "Catch Up" days, others may be asynchronous due to an absence.  Teachers have been asked to share any change to the regular schedule with parents and students prior to the day of class.

FCPS leadership will be meeting with the Virginia Secretary of Education to review the new CDC information. They will be processing the new information and providing updated guidance. It will take a couple of weeks to implement any new strategies needed to safely adjust the in-person learning environment, if the CDC guidance warrants. This will impact decisions made for Prom, Graduation and All Night Graduation Celebrations.

Please know, we are proud of our multi-cultural community of students, faculty and staff and we embrace our diverse cultural heritage, support and respect ALL. We recognize what a privilege it is to be able to learn from other perspectives and experiences. Here at Woodson, we value all identities and reject hateful rhetoric and actions.

Thank you, families, for your continued support of our students. Together, we are #OneWoodson.

Stay safe, stay warm and stay connected,

Dr. Floyd

10. Diverse Books

This month the Equity Team will feature several photos from our faculty and staff, students, and parents reading diverse books in the Woodson Weekly. Please complete the Google form and share a picture of yourself with the diverse book that you are currently reading or plan on reading. Creating content that is diverse and inclusive is critical to learner success. Research has shown that diverse representation can help close gender and race gaps in education, and can create inclusive and productive course communities for all learners. Thus educators, parents, and guardians have an important role to play in creating diverse and inclusive content. If you are interested please share your photo using this Google form.
