Grades 3-6 Return to School Reminders

Next week, in-person students in grades 3-6 will return to the building. By now you should have received a letter in the mail letting you know which days your child has been assigned to.

If you have not already done so, please notify your child's teacher how your child will be transported to and from school each day. If you requested bus transportation for your child, their route information is available in ParentVUE.

If you have questions about your scheduled days or bus information, please call the main office at (703) 921-2400 or email lmgibson@fcps.edu

Health Screening Commitment Form Required Prior to Student Return to School Buildings

If you have not already done so, please complete the  Health Screening Commitment Form prior to your child's return to school date. This form must be completed before students re-enter school buildings. This document confirms that a parent, caregiver, or guardian will complete a daily health screening and will keep students home when they are ill.

The Health Commitment form can be submitted electronically through ParentVUE (preferred) or via hard copy. If you have not yet created a SIS ParentVUE account, please contact Katie Simmons at kesimmons@fcps.edu for an activation code. PDFs of the form and all available translations can also be found online here: https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/student-health-and-safety-guidance-document

Family and School Partnership Tips: Building Confidence in Children

Each child is unique. Parents know their children’s strengths and weaknesses. Here are excerpts from The Parent Institute’s, Quick Tip Series on building confidence in children.

Messages Children Need to Hear

  • You are loved. This message builds self-esteem.
  • You are you. This message recognizes and honor the child’s unique talents.
  • You are growing up. This message prompts parents to increase responsibility and encourage children to express their opinions.

Teaching New Skills When teaching new skills, make the job manageable for success.

  • Break the task down into small parts that can be accomplished.
  • Show how to do the job, step by step.
  • Have your child do the job with you.
  • Praise what your child does correct more that you criticize what is wrong.
  • Be patient and don’t redo the job yourself.

Workshop: Understanding Special Education for Military Connected Families

March 18, 2021 at 7:00 PM

This workshop will help you identify your child’s learning strengths and challenges as well as organize your important information about your child so it will be helpful in educational planning. Come and learn the phases of the special education process and identify the specific actions you
may take during the special education process. You will become familiar with how to address disagreements, formally and informally, and learn ways to work as partners with teacher and other school personnel.

If you are a military family residing in NC, we will have Nicole Bougie, ECAC, with us to share the information that is specific to NC.
