1.Bus Schedule Information for grades 1 through 6

Parents/guardians of students in grades 1 through 6 will not receive direct notification from FCPS Transportation regarding bus schedules.  Instead, parents/guardians can find their children’s transportation information in their SIS ParentVUE accounts.  Once you log in, click on Student Info in the menu on the left, and scroll down to Transportation.  The information listed will be the FVES Bus route number, times of pick up and drop off, and bus stop location.

If you requested that your child be added to a bus or there has been a change in the days he/she is attending, please allow 5 days for any additions or changes to be made to the schedule.

Additionally, please feel free to call the Fairfax Villa office between 8:45 am - 4:45 pm (703-267-2800) if you are unable to find your child’s transportation details.

2.Return to School

Dates of Return for Student Groups

Group 7: Grades 3-6

  • March 16 (for the Tuesday/Wednesday in-person students)
  • March 18 (for the Thursday/Friday in-person students)

Teacher Preparation Days

Please note: Teachers will be assigning asynchronous work to students in Group 7 on March 12 and 15. There will be no direct instruction or morning meeting on these days. These days will be used as teacher preparation days as we continue to plan for the return to school.

Art Materials

If your child is coming to school in person on a day that they have art, they should bring their school provided art kit in the Ziploc bag.  This contains a sketchbook and watercolors, along with a pencil, scissors, glue, and crayons or colored pencils. If students never picked up their school provided art kit from the school, please contact Ms. Paramore (drparamore@fcps.edu).

3.Yearbook Pictures Needed

This year we would like to capture everything you have been doing at home during virtual learning.  Please share photos of your child learning virtually, playing outside, participating in spirit days, cooking, doing arts and crafts, practicing their instrument, creating science experiments, reading, or anything fun! We would love to include your memories in the yearbook.

Please send photos to be considered for the yearbook to: FairfaxVillaYearbook@gmail.com

If you missed the scheduled Picture Day, you can still have your individual child’s photo included in the yearbook with their grade level. Please click on the google form below for directions on how to submit a photo of your child.  Please make sure the photo of your child is taken vertically, is not a full body photo, and is taken in front of a neutral background.

The deadline for both of these is April 12.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Paramore at drparamore@fcps.edu

4.Health Screening Commitment Form Required Prior to Student Return to School Buildings

As many students return to in-person instruction, parents and caregivers will be asked to acknowledge a Health Screening Commitment form before their student(s) re-enter school buildings. This document confirms that a parent, caregiver, or guardian will complete a daily health screening and will keep their students home when they are ill.

The Health Commitment form can be submitted electronically through ParentVUE (PVUE) or via hard copy. Please contact your child’s school to have a hard copy sent to you.

5.Lunchboxes Now Allowed

As of March 3, lunchboxes are NOW allowed.  Students will need to put them back inside their backpacks after lunch.

7.Read Across America Challenge

Fairfax Villa students are taking part in a schoolwide challenge to read in myOn from March 2nd to April 6th. The grade with the most minutes will get to choose the theme for an upcoming spirit day! Let’s go, Villa Dragons! Show us how much you can read!

8.Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2021-2022 School Year

We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2021, please fill out the form at https://fairfaxvillaes.fcps.edu/student-services/new-student-registration no later than March 15, 2021.

If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Fairfax Villa families who do not have children currently attending our school.

Please email any questions to Silvia Dossmann, Student Information Assistant, at smdossmann@fcps.edu.

9.Positivity Character Trait for March 15-19: Love of Learning

What does LOVE OF LEARNING mean? Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving. People who love learning experience positive feelings in the process of acquiring skills, building on existing knowledge, or learning something completely new.

WHY DOES IT MATTER? Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.”        -NEIL deGRASSE TYSON
