Playground Usage

We are excited to share that students may now use the playground!

After careful consideration, the county has approved the use of playground equipment. Please note, there is limited transmission from solely touching surfaces. Instead, it appears that transmission is connected to hands touching mouths and noses following contact with droplets with SARS-CoV-2. As a result of the risk-benefit analysis, FCPS will permit the use of playground apparatuses during the school day contingent upon the implementation of the required mitigation strategies.

Mitigation strategies include students covering their mouths and noses with face masks while using the equipment to minimize students’ ability to put their hands on/in their mouth or nose. Additionally, students are required to sanitize their hands immediately before and immediately after using the equipment. Similar to other COVID-related plans, the county will monitor our data and collaborate with the Health Department to determine an alternate course of action if it is determined that transmission in schools is related to use of the playground equipment.

Grade levels/classrooms have created a schedule to ensure that Zone 7 (playground) is not crowded, reinforcing the expectation that students socially distance. Teachers will bring a bottle of hand sanitizer outside so students can comply with county mitigation strategies.

As always, FHES administration will continue to keep you updated! Thank you for your continued support!
