Churchill Chatter - Issue 30, March 14, 2021

Dear Churchill Families,

We welcomed back many of our first and second grade Bobcats this week! There are no words to describe our excitement.  Our teachers are doing an amazing job learning new technology and a completely different way of teaching two groups concurrently. Thank you for your continued patience and grace as we learn and improve every day. We’re looking forward to grades 3-6 in-school learners joining us this coming week on Tuesday, March 16!

Although much of the information we have shared over the past few weeks has been about the in person return to the building, our students remaining virtual are part of our Churchill family. We are continuing to incorporate ways we can make all of our students included and important in the days ahead.

On Thursday, we learned we have been given the go ahead for students to use the playground apparatus during recess.  This is wonderful news!  We will share updates around the playground, once it is completed.

With appreciation for your continued partnership and support,

Ms. Pierson and Ms. Niccolls

Notes on Student Dismissal

With three full weeks in the books, we'd like to make sure that families are up-to-date on dismissal procedures.

  • Dismissal is 3:30 PM for all in-person students.
  • Kiss & Ride: For those of you picking-up your children at Kiss & Ride,  please make sure you have your dismissal cards with your family number clearly displayed. The cards must be in the window the entire time you are waiting in line, and not removed until after the student is picked up.

Student Items

Please help us keep our students and staff safe as we return to school.

  • Please have your student bring a water bottle to school each day. Due to Covid restrictions, our water fountains are not operational.
  • Students need to wear a face make when in school.  Please be sure that your child brings one to school each day.

Celebrating School Social Worker Week

yoga

We'd like to recognize Churchill Road social worker Wes Smith for all that he does for our students, families and staff.  He has provided much needed support over the past year.  We especially loves that Mr. Smith keeps us mindful with yoga.

Survey of Preschool Children

A survey of preschool children is conducted annually to help our school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the following school year.

Virginia law, Section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

Please click and complete the following Survey of Preschool Children for the child you intend to:

  • Register for Kindergarten at Churchill Road ES in the fall
  • For any child currently attending private school and will enroll in first grade at Churchill Road ES in the fall.

Please complete the survey by March 30, 2021.

This survey is not a kindergarten registration.  All forms necessary to register your child for the 2021-22 school year are available at www.fcps.edu.

Questions?  Please contact Churchill Road Registrar, Chris Redding, cbspencerred@fcps.edu.

Playground Progress - End of Week 1

play

What a difference a few days make.  Our old playground is almost entirely dismantled.  We can't wait until the new one is finished.

As a reminder, we anticipate that the construction will take about a month.  For everyone's safety, please avoid the playground until the work is completed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Principal Evaluation Survey - Ends March 19!

Last week, all Churchill Road Elementary parents/guardians were contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online.  The questionnaire will be collected online until March 19. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire.

If you have not received a survey link and wish to provide feedback, please email FCPSSurvey@fcps.edu and Shelli Wayland will send you a link

Thank you for your time and support.

Make Up Yearbook Picture Day on April 12

THANK YOU to the more than 400 students and faculty who came for picture day despite the rainy weather!!

If you missed it, we will have a make-up day on April 12. Please sign up for a time to come to the school for your child to take their yearbook picture.

This will be a very quick process - students enter through the side cafeteria doors between the cafeteria and the front office, have a photo taken (quickly take their mask off) and be done.  Children will exit through the main cafeteria doors in the parking lot.

This will be THE LAST OPPORTUNITY for your student to have a yearbook pictures that conforms to the rest of the class pages and yearbook format.

Yearbooks will be going on sale shortly so please keep an eye out for forthcoming information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Christie Stute at cstute@mac.com.

Thank you!
