Scottie Tales for the week of March 15

A Note From Your Principal

Tomorrow, we welcome back Scotties in Grades 3-6 to the building and we couldn't be more excited to see them. If your Scottie is returning tomorrow please be sure that your student knows how they are getting home, has all the supplies they need including an extra mask, and you have completed the Health Screening Commitment Form which is linked at the bottom.

As we have had students in the building for the past two weeks we have some changes to procedures that we need to remind you about.

Kiss & Ride- If you are utilizing Kiss & Ride, please be sure your student is sitting on the passenger side of the car. Students will need to enter and exit your car on the passenger side during drop off and pick up for safety reasons. If your student needs to be buckled into a car seat, please consider parking and picking your student up as a walker to avoid holding up the line.

Kiss & Ride Exit- When you are leaving Bonnie Brae after dropping off or picking up your student you MUST make a right out of the parking lot onto Sideburn Rd. Fairfax Police have notified the school that they will be out on Sideburn ticketing those drivers that do not follow this traffic pattern.

Breakfast- As stated at the Parent / Principal Townhall meetings, breakfast and lunch are available at no cost to you for the remainder of the school year. Please remind your student that if they want breakfast it is available to pick up in the lobby or at doorway 3 when entering from kiss and ride. Please remind your student to pick one up if they need it.

Science Time- With the amazing support of the PTO we are having our fist virtual assembly on March 22 immediately following your students morning meeting. Students experience the amazing Mr. Hagerman and his wonderful experiments for all to enjoy. Check out this short video for a preview of his show. Teachers will provide students with the virtual link after morning meeting to join the fun!

As we return routines and procedures are being updated and tweaked to ensure we are operating at our full potential. Please be patient. With new guidelines and strict social distancing protocols, things will take a little longer than usual. If you feel things are taking too long or have another suggestion how we might be able to change a protocol we have, please refrain from stopping the staff when they are at their arrival or dismissal post. Instead, feel free to come to our next PTO meeting and join in a reflective dialogue on how the BBES return to in-person-learning has been going. We would love to hear from you.

National Reading Month is also celebrated in the month of March and we are excited to partner with our amazing PTO to celebrate reading. This month the PTO is sponsoring a Read-a-thon with prizes awarded to the classes that read the most. For more information on this and more please visit our Read-a-thon section on the school website. When you visit the website be on the lookout for your favorite Bonnie Brae staff member reading their favorite book.

Health Screening Commitment Form

If your student(s) are coming back to in-person instruction, the county is asking you to complete the Parent/ Guardian Health Screening Commitment form either in paper or in ParentVue prior to the return of your student(s) group. Please visit the FCPS website for more information on the Commitment Form.

Transportation

As your return date gets closer, transportation information will be available through ParentVue. Please login to get the most current bus stop and route information from there. If you do not have a ParentVue account reach out to our Technology Specialist, Erica Demick (eademick@fcps.edu) for assistance.

As indicated in previous editions of the Scottie Takes, our bell schedule has changed as of February. Please take a few minutes to check out the New Bell Schedule to find your grade level specific schedule.

As always, we are going to come out stronger because of each other. Stay safe, take care of yourself and take care of each other.

Best,

Principal Skerker
