A Note from Mrs. Kirkpatrick

We are thrilled for the return of our first and second grade students this week. As we bring in more students, we will continue to monitor our protocols and make adjustments as needed.

I wanted to share a quick reminder that we are making some changes in live time with teachers as our first and second grade teachers work on classroom procedures and developing comfort with the new technologies. Our teachers have worked diligently to prepare, but this work is hard.  We can all do hard things, but ask for your patience as teachers continue to build skills in concurrent instruction. They need our cheers, support and encouragement!

Monday morning we held our Kindergarten orientation. As in past years, we created a special video entitled "The Best Thing about Kindergarten is..."  This has always been a sweet part to share with families because the creation develops straight from the heart of our students. This years edition also gives you a look into our virtual and concurrent 2021 - 2021 school year.

You can view our 2021 video on this link produced by our fabulous SBTS, Kathleen Fugle

Enjoy this special treat!

Wishing you all a wonderful week,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

We will have some new protocols in place to socially distance and as students arrive and leave school.

We want to begin our day with all students in class. This will allow our teachers time to work with students on procedures and be ready for mornign meetin at 9 a.m. Parents driving, please drop off between 8:40 - 8:55 a.m. so students can be in their seat by 9 a.m.

Dismissal begins at 3:30 p.m. We have two waves of dismissal to spread out students: Wave 1 at 3:30 p.m and Wave 2 at 3:30 p.m. As students return we will monitor the effectiveness of this time spread.

  • Walkers (with parents as we are a non-walking school) - Due to social distancing, you will not be able to walk your child to the front door. Please not congregate under the door #1 awning afterschool to wait for dismissal.
    • Parents walking students should walk them to the sidewalk at the front of the kiss and ride area and say goodbye in this area.  You may also come to the open area by the trailers. Students walking to the kiss n ride lot will enter door #2 by the gym.
    • If walking from the right of the school, please say goodbye at the flagpole. You will notice paw prints by the flag pole to indicate this departure and meet up area. Students walking to the flagpole area will enter door #1.
  • Kiss and Ride - Entry and exit is door #2 - Parents should pull forward looking at the paw prints to pull forward around the loop. Students should be able to unbuckle and exit without parent help.  We have staff ready to assist them if needed.
  • Bus - Entry and exit is through the door #1 to provide distancing for students.  Please be patient with bus transportation as students are all phased in. Issues will be worked out as our drivers work hard to meet the new demands presented. We will work on any issues and ask for flexibility and grace for all.

Health Care Plan Information

If your child has a known medical condition, such as allergies, we need to have this information on file with our Public Health Nurse.

We will need a note from the doctor indicating that your child has chronic condition that result in symptoms such as:  1. runny nose, 2. watery red eyes etc. Then our Public Health Nurse will add those symptoms to the med flag. If your child is exhibiting symptoms related to the known chronic condition, they can then stay in school if there are no other symptoms.

If any child has COVID like symptoms, our clinic aide will evaluate and follow current health department protocols.

If you have questions regarding your child's health, you may reach out to our Public Health Nurse, Vivienne Goldstein, by email at Vivienne.Goldstein@fairfaxcounty.gov.
