Justice Newsletter - March 7

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

Happy Sunday!  We had a successful return to in-person school with our grades 9 and 12 this week. We are ready for our sophomores and juniors to join our school community this week.

I popped in several classes last week – both virtual and in-person.  I saw lots of meaningful learning and team building. Our content collaborative teams are diligently working together to plan lessons using high-leverage strategies to engage students regardless of setting. Staff and students continue to adjust to the new model of concurrent instruction.

Monday, March 8, is a teacher workday.  Students do not have to sign in for attendance. Friday, we will conduct our first fire drill of the school year. In-person students will need to exit the building, while virtual students should remain logged into their BBCU class.

We have a new attendance code- SYC- that teachers will use if an in-person student does NOT come to school BUT DOES log in virtually.  If you see this code for your in-person student's attendance, they did not come to school physically but participated virtually.

As we transition more students back to in-person next week, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of our admin team.

Third-Quarter Catch-Up Days

As we continue to find ways to support students in managing their workload, Dr. Brabrand asked schools to identify quarterly Catch-Up Days that would allow students time to complete assignments they might be missing or need to complete. The Catch-Up Days for the third quarter will be March 25 and 26.  Students will follow their schedule and log into Blackboard Collaborate or attend in-person classes. Teachers will take attendance and remind students about any work they need to complete; no new lessons or additional assignments will occur on these days.

Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!

This spring all Justice High School parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been an unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.

The questionnaire will be collected online between March 8 and March 19. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!

LAST Visual Arts Material Distribution – Monday, March 8th, 12 - 3 pm!

Art Distribution

On Monday, March 8th, between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm, we will be distributing the last round of art materials for students in all of our Visual Arts classes at Justice HS. If your student is remaining virtual and has any of the teachers listed below, they will have supplies to pick up on March 8th.  If your student will be attending in person, they can pick up these supplies during their art class at school and would not need to drive up for this event.

  • Mr. Agel
  • Ms. Augustine
  • Mr. Fitzgerald
  • Ms. Martin
  • Ms. Nast
  • Ms. Wallestad

These materials will be distributed from outside of Door 3 (to the far left of the main entrance) at the curb (see image below). Please stay in your car. Students (or parent/guardian) should hold up a piece of paper with the student’s full name (first and last) and ID number.  A staff member will then retrieve the student’s schedule and bring the materials out to the curb for their art class.  We ask that anyone coming to the school wear a mask.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Amy Nast (amnast@fcps.edu).

Personal Laptops

As students begin to return to the building, we've seen an increase in the number of personal laptops.  While students are allowed to use personal laptops, they don't connect to the school's network as well as the FCPS issued laptops.  If your student has a school laptop at home, please encourage them to bring that laptop to school. If they don't have a school laptop and would like to use one, one can be requested in the main office.  If you have any questions, please email Jason Kagarise.
