Message from Dr. Smith

Hello Bruin Families,

This week we welcomed our 8th, 9th and 12th graders who chose to participate in in-person learning.  Our staff and administrative team has been working diligently toward welcoming these students back, and we are looking forward to welcoming our 7th, 10th and 11th graders next week.

Hopefully you saw my announcement earlier this week that Mr. Tony DiBari was named the new principal at Westfield High School! This is a big loss for Lake Braddock but we look forward to great things ahead at Westfield!  We are incredibly grateful for Mr. Dibari's six years of service and dedication to our community.

There are some additional changes to our administrative team and their responsibilities that are important mention.

  • Ms. Raine Bradley, currently our Middle School Assessment Coach and Systems of Support Advisory, will join our administrative team as one of our Middle School Assistant Principal.   She will also provide administrative support and supervision for our middle school science department.
  • Ms. Liz Eby will serve as the Subschool 4 Principal (Last Name E-K) and she will also provide administrative supervision and support for our Cat B department.
  • Ms. Jennifer Harris will provide administrative supervision and support for our Performing Arts department.
  • Ms. Lindsey Kearns will provide administrative supervision and support for our high school Cat A department.
  • Dr. Ana Cingel will serve as the Assistant Principal of Administrative Services.

Monday, March 8th, is a teacher workday.  Students do not have to sign in for attendance, but we will still have our Strategies for Success intervention program occurring for those students who have been previously identified.

As we transition more students in next week, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's Subschool Administrator, or our main office, with questions.

United as Bruins,

Daniel W. Smith, Ed.D.

Staff Update

Raine Bradley is the newest Assistant Principal at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Mrs. Bradley comes to the Bruin family with a wide variety of experience in education and public relations. She finds her greatest honor and reward to be in greatest reward is seeing children gain confidence as they recognize and utilize their voice as it pertains to their learning.

A native of New York, Mrs. Bradley spent her secondary years of schooling in Florida and attended college in North Carolina. In addition to graduating from North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, in 2013 she obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership.

Through her new role as an Assistant Principal at Lake Braddock, she will support staff in ensuring that all students are receiving the best educational experience. Mrs. Bradley desires to continue the great work of the Bruin community, building a legacy of excellence where all students are college and/or career-ready. She and her husband are the proud parents of three daughters, Charity, Gabrielle and Faith.

Mrs. Bradley’s passion for equity in education drives her every effort in helping provide a quality education to Lake Braddock’s community. It is with great pleasure we introduce Mrs. Raine Bradley, as she is here to help our children thrive beyond measure.

Student Drop Off

Parents, as you drop your students off at school in the morning, please use only the kiss-n-ride locations at the Bears or Door 3. Please do not stop in the middle of the other parking lots. We really appreciate your help with this.

Bus Passes

Please note that we are not able to write a bus pass for a student to ride another bus. The number of students riding a bus is strictly planned and there is no room for additional riders. Thank you.

Lake Braddock Community Meeting

Dear Families,

The Lake Braddock Pyramid is excited to announce our second pyramid-wide community meeting with all of the Lake Braddock Pyramid School Principals. This virtual meeting will be focused on building a stronger understanding of equity across the PreK – 12 learning continuum. During this conversation, you will learn more about the clearly defined and connected efforts of all eight schools within the pyramid in addressing equity-informed practices to ensure that all students feel welcome and that inclusion remains at the center of our work.

We plan to share our common approaches to achieve our goal and share specific strategies that each school has implemented to address the individual needs of our connected communities.  Please join us on March 23rd, at 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. to participate in the community discussion.  Please use the following link https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/e94dbfd2261f4024afae685772972abc to access the meeting.

Sincerely,

Lake Braddock Pyramid Principals

Kindness and Love Messages

Throughout the month of February, Lake Braddock’s Middle School Bruins in Action, and the Philanthropy Club, were joined by the schools’ SGA members in creating over 1,000 hand crafted cards and letters for residents at the Burke Health and Rehabilitation Center and Heatherwood Retirement Community.  Because of COVID, visitors are severely restricted or prevented from visiting nursing facilities.  However, COVID did not stop our student philanthropists from providing long-distance hugs to our senior neighbors to let them know that we’re thinking of them on Valentine’s Day and EVERYDAY. The enthusiasm in which our Bruins give their time, talent, or treasure in support of our community is truly inspiring!

AP Exams

To students who are taking at least one AP course this school year, please read the important information below.

We understand that many students and families have questions regarding the logistics of the AP Exam administration this year. Please know that we should expect to have answers to many of these questions by the end of the month.  Once we receive the information about the 2021 AP Exam administration, we be sure to share the details with the LB community.

One of the questions that many students are asking is, “How do I opt-out/cancel an AP exam?” If this is something you would like to do at this time, please have your parent/guardian contact Lynn Carrera (contact information below) by Monday, March 8, 2021. However, if you change your mind and decide you want to test after we have removed your name from our AP exam order, you will be charged a $40 late exam order fee for each exam.

For students who paid for an AP exam but are choosing to opt-out of that exam and want to request a refund:  At the end of the month, we will make a Google form available for you to complete. Refunds will be processed after AP Exam administration is completed. ONLY STUDENTS REQUESTING A REFUND NEED TO COMPLETE THE GOOGLE FORM.

If you have questions, please email our AP Testing Team:
