Character Strength of the Week
What does mean? You are aware of other people’s thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things.
Social intelligence refers to a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships. It is distinct from a person’s IQ or “book smarts.” It includes an individual’s ability to understand, and act on, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of other people. This type of intelligence can take place “in the moment” of face-to-face conversations but also appears during times of deliberate thinking. It involves emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
Examples of social intelligence include knowing when to talk or listen, what to say, and what to do. Timing is a big part of social intelligence. For example, someone who is imperceptive, may tell a funny joke – but at the wrong time, or not show enough interest when meeting someone new.
Quote of the Week: The single most important lesson I learned in 25 years of talking every single day to people, was that there’s a common denominator in our human experience. The common denominator I found in every single interview is we want to be validated. We want to be understood.” -OPRAH WINFREY

Stop the Spread Campaign
FCPS has started a Stop the Spread campaign. To stop the spread, FCPS has implemented mitigation strategies. The Stop the Spread Campaign focuses on teaching and reinforcing the what, why, and how of each of these mitigation strategies. If you have not yet, please take a moment to watch this community video with your child(ren).

Mask Wearing
All students will be required to wear a mask consistently and correctly, over their mouth and nose, except when eating. We appreciate your partnership in continuing to practice and reinforce proper mask wearing.
Students who are unable to meet the mask wearing expectation will be required to transition to virtual learning until they have learned to tolerate mask wearing. This will ensure a safe environment for all.
Health and Safety Reminder:
How FCPS Responds to COVID-19 Cases at School
It has been an exciting few weeks welcoming new groups of students back to in-person instruction. We hope you and your student have reviewed the five key mitigation strategies, and discussed the importance of following them every day, to help keep everyone safe inside our school buildings.
While we are doing everything possible to keep our schools safe, we want to remind you of our notification process if we are made aware of a positive COVID case in an FCPS building. FCPS is working closely with the Fairfax County Health Department to help with contact tracing and we will be following their guidance on any potential public health recommendations.

Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!
Dear Dranesville Parents and Guardians,
This spring all Dranesville Elementary parents/guardians will be contacted through email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form Online. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include instructional leadership, school climate, human resources management, organizational management, communication and community relations and professionalism. Understanding that this has been an unusual year, the impacts of COVID-19 will be taken into consideration when reviewing the feedback.
The questionnaire will be collected online between March 8 and March 19. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your opinions matter!
Thank you for your feedback!
