Read Across America
March 1- March 5, 2021
Please join us next week as we celebrate Read Across America as a school community virtually! Students are encouraged to participate in book-themed spirit days during the school day and families are invited to join us for a themed story time each evening. Daytime Activities/Spirit Days
Monday, March 1st: Book Character Day
Dress up as your favorite book character today. Upload a short video to FlipGrid telling us which character you chose and why the character is your favorite!
Tuesday, March 2nd: Travel Section
Wear a T-shirt from a place you have visited. Upload a short video to FlipGrid telling us where you visited and why you enjoyed it.
Wednesday, March 3rd: Biography Day
Think of a famous person (maybe someone you look up to) and find an object or create a symbol to represent him or her. Share this person’s contributions (why would they have a biography written about them) and explain why you chose the object or symbol you did in this FlipGrid.
Thursday, March 4th: Fun with Functional Texts
There are so many different types of nonfiction. Find a recipe or craft to do or make today and enjoy putting your comprehension skills to work! Need a good recipe or craft to follow? Login to MyON and search recipe or craft.
Friday, March 5th: Promote Your Favorite Book
Create a slide (you will need to log into your Google) of your favorite book to be shared with others on WGES! Be sure to include a picture of the book cover, a short summary with a cliffhanger (don’t give away the whole story), and tell us why you would recommend it to others!

Monday, March 1 - Asynchronous day for Grades PreK-6 (teacher prep day)
Tuesday, March 2 - RTS Community Meeting (grades 1-6) 6:30pm
Thursday, March 4 - Asynchronous day for Grades 1-2 (teacher prep day)
Friday, March 5 - Asynchronous day for Grades 1-2 (teacher prep day)
Friday, March 5 - 2 hour early release for all students (1:30pm)
Monday, March 8 - Teacher Work Day - no in-person or virtual learning
Tuesday, March 9 - 1st & 2nd grade students return to in-person instruction on your assigned days.
Thursday, March 11 - Asynchronous day for grades 3-6 (teacher prep day)
Friday, March 12 - Asynchronous day for grades 3-6 (teacher prep day)
Tuesday, March 16 - Grades 3-6 students return to in-person instruction on your assigned days.
